The Queen (Gawd bless 'er) will be watching 'Flash Gordon' Brian Blessed: Flash Gordon is the Queen's favourite film / The Guardian "Brian Blessed has claimed that the Queen revealed to him that her favourite film is Flash Gordon, the 1980 sci-fi in which he stars as Prince Vultan. Speaking about the film’s 40th anniversary to Edith Bowman on Yahoo Movies, the actor said that whenever he goes, people demand he recite his character’s catchphrase. “Everywhere I go, they all want me to say ‘Gordon’s alive!’,” said Blessed. “The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, horses and queens, and prime ministers, they all want me to say ‘Gordon’s alive!’, it’s their favourite film.” He continued: “The Queen, it’s her favourite film, she watches it with her grandchildren every Christmas.” The actor then assumed the Queen’s accent, quoting her as saying: “You know, we watch Flash Gordon all the time, me and the grandchildren. And if you don’t mind, I’ve got the grandchildren here, would you mind saying ‘Gordon’s alive’?”"

Video Violence 2 (1988, Gary Cohen) Sneaking this one in here as it had a "Xmas ad" in it Sequel utilising some of the cast from the first. Tonally very different to the first ( the more I think about it, the more it goes into the pantheon tbh) to reasonable effect. Both I will say are top tier for this genre, even if some of the humour in this one falls a bit flat. Cursed with knowledge as I am, maybe having seen this, say, even a decade ago, might have improved iit's standing. I digress. Welcome to the world of ... entertainment. A chatshow with a difference. FX still very out standing imho. Obviously compared to an Ittenbach flick, it's like a Disney film, but still .... like the parent, worth a butchers ....

Christmas Evil. A disturbed middle aged man obsessed with Christmas and Santa goes doo-lally on Christmas Eve. Seriously weird Christmas "horror?" flick with a compellingly strange atmosphere and a real WTF ending.

Get Santa Jim Broadbent is Santa who ends up in a British Prison and relies on recently paroled Rafe Spall for assistance. This has a strange feel, it's a U rated film but it wouldn't surprise me if children got restless but nothing that warrants a higher certificate. It's not a bad film especially with the scenes where Broadbent is navigating prison life are entertaining. It's worth a watch once a year. Four Christmases When Vince Vaughan and Reece Witherspoon's Xmas holiday being cancelled at the last minute they are forced to visit both sets of divorced parents. Dysfunction and arguments quickly ensue. Again a film worth watching once a year. Miracle On 34th Street (1994) Richard Attenborough is a man claiming to be Santa who has to defend himself in court assisted by Lawyer Dylan McDermott. Not bad, a little long for my liking. This was the 1st time, I've seen this film (It's one that I never got round to seeing beforehand) but I remember seeing the VHS cover in all the Xmas magazines that shops like Woolworths, WH Smiths, HMV, Boots would put out in October so people could have an idea what's available for Xmas presents. A Christmas Carol (2009) Jim Carrey is Scrooge who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present & Future. Carrey is good in his role in a good but slow movie. |

Santa Claus: The Movie. 1985. A toy maker discovers the magical kingdom of Elves in the North Pole and becomes Santa Claus. When his eager to please elf Patch leaves and heads to New York he is mixed up with a toy manufacturer who plans to take over Christmas. So many happy memories of the film at Christmas time watching this, David Huddleston takes the lead role as Santa who makes it believable that Saint Nick is actually real. Dudley Moore plays the Elf with amazing ideas Patch who gets mixed up with toy maker BZ played by John Lithgow. Ilya Salkind and Pierre Spengler team up with Jeannot Szwarc who directed their previous film Supergirl seemed to use the same effects used for the flying sequences that were a lot better and believable. The acting throughout the film gets better and better from the adults, Carrie Kei Heim and Christian Fitzpatrick who play Cornelia and Joe are brilliant. p8937_p_v10_ag.jpg
