I'm not going to ask him about the animals. I might ask him what he thinks of the bbfc cut's to House on the Edge of the Park.

Deodato spent all his childhood summers going to his uncles farm were a pig would be slaughtered when he arrived so he grew up with a farmyard attitude to wards animals, ie animals = Food.

Us city folk think animals are like Disney made em , all cute & cluddly, then a Mouse gets in the house, we see its not like Mickey, so we kill it.

I have quite a few cats ( seven ) and they have often brought mice into house but instead of letting the cat kill it we would rescue the poor thing and release it out the back.

I would never kill anything( not even a bug )

After its rejection in 1969 it was considered for release again in 1974 but distributors were informed that major cuts would be required for the X rating. And so any plans for a release were shelved. It was submitted again in 1993 and passed with an 18 rating. By this time (25 years on) the film was beginning to look rather tame.
