I really really wanted to start collecting those Arrow Academy releases on BD but it would just cost me too much. What with collecting the Arrow Video ones at the same time and all. I need to be sensible but depressed

Rififi has had a fantastic review at Blu-ray.com Rififi Blu-ray (United Kingdom)

I thought the DVD was very good (and the film is excellent) so I'll look forward to that. Also, I like that artwork but it will be interesting to see what the other three panels are.

As anyone who has picked up Les Diaboliques will know, these Arrow Academy releases are fantastic packages.

According to DVD Compare both the EIV and Warner DVDs of The Long Kiss Goodnight are missing the 'Santa Sleigh Pursuit' scene.
Can anybody here please confirm the U.K. BR of Renny Harlin's enjoyable Amnesiac actioner is uncut with the above sequence intact?

I fancy purchasing this terrific title but if the British HD release is still shortened and minus the film's trailer i'll be looking to buy the U.S. BR edition.

Many thanks in advance for any advice given.

Saw something interesting on Digital Fix regarding Conan The Barbarian. It says that if (only) if you choose English at the startup menu, it will play the UK theatrical version. I'm curious to see if you choose another language, i.e. another country, if it just plays the longer international version (still with the horsefall cuts)....or if it plays the full uncut version? That way, the same disc can be issued all over Europe. If it does, that would surely open the floodgates for companies to release both cut and uncut versions on UK discs, providing that they were the distributor in another country where a film wasn't cut. Yeah, I know it's wishful thinking on my part!

It may be wishful thinking, but it's a cracking idea!

I know. The only way it would work is if the BBFC thought we weren't smart enough to choose a different Country/language.

There are a few BDs (Basic Instinct springs to mind) where the audio options entirely dependent on which language you choose from the first menu. For instance, if you click on French, you can't then switch to English ones the film has started. The same options could be applied here only with different versions of the film.

I imagine the BBFC would have to check the entire content of the disc -- that's if it was well known the disc contains different cuts of the same movie.
