It's an exploitation film from 1970 involving a fellow who rapes and kills women and his shrink who tries to manipulate him to his own end. Review should be up at the COSDS blog soon. Something Weird Video put it out as a double feature with Heat of Madness (that I haven't watched yet).

Thats the rumour... not sure I fancy sitting through a 3 hour print of this film, honestly I don't think It would work as a movie at all...

But then I could be wrong so it would be nice to get a 3-disc release of the origional special edition and the 3 hour version on the final disc.

Over the past few days I hve watched a number of great films.

Dr No (Blu) A strong first entry in the Bond series
Goldfinger (Blu) The film that really put Bond on the map and introduced many of the elements that are now seen as essential elements of a Bond film.
House with Laughing Windows (shameless DVD) I really like the overall atmosphere of madness and decay that permeates every shot in this wonderful Italian film. Postman managed to crack the case
Julia X (Blu) A film I really enjoyed at last years Fantasy Film Fest, and a second viewing on Bluray confirms my original opinion. Not sure if this has made it to the U.K. yet in any form, which is a shame as its quite a subversive take on all of the torture porn that has clogged the shelves of HMV for far too long.
Storage 24 I will say a bit more about this British horror comedy in my Diary thread tomorrow once Phantafest has concluded.
Whisperer in Darkness (Cinema) Adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft short story.I will say more about this over in my Diary when Phantafest finishes tomorrow.

Someone's Watching Me (1978)

Considered John Carpenter's lost movie, this 1978 made for tv affair was the directors first work with Adrienne Barbeau who would go on to be a Carpenter regular during the eighties.

Unfortunately for me this film didn't work at all. It feels like a Channel 5 Monday afternoon production and holds little in the way of suspense and no blood whatsoever. Lauren Hutton heads the film but i didn't find her convincing as the woman in peril from a mysterious stalker.

The film lacked any of Carpenters flourishes and was severely crying out for one of his compositions to give the film a layer of class in the Hitchcock tradition.

Others seem to think this film wonderful but i just found it disappointing.

Whisperer in the darkness is great. I saw it last year at grimmfest. Imagine an old RKO horror/sci-fi from the 40's using lovecraft as the source material. One of my favourites of the whole festival.

Then the H.P lovecraft historical society released an extras packed blu-ray available through their website (its region free btw!)
Anyone not wanting to pay out for that release should be aware that grimm films who releaased SOME GUY WHO KILLS PEOPLE are looking at releasing it (and some of the other HPLHS films) in the uk in the near future.

The Frightened City (1961)

British noir thriller centred around racketeering. The film is mainly of interest because it features third in the cast Sean Connery, the year before he hit the screens in Dr. No. Connery plays a hardened criminal but there is evidence of his future role mainly in the way he talks to authority figures and crime bosses.

Herbert Lom leads the cast along with John Gregson as the inspector hot on the crime syndicates heels, as well as Hammer semi regulars Yvonne Romain and George Pastell.

The film itself is a decent crime movie although not in the same division as other Brit crime classics such as The League of Gentlemen and Robbery.

Recommended for those with an interest in British crime cinema.

Sherlock Holmes: The Spider Woman (1944) A female antogonist, a pygmy and a seriously weird kid!

Sherlock Holmes: The Pearl of Death (1944) This one just didnt do it for me! A museums entire collection protected by three exposed wires in the curators office! Although the highlight of the movie is Holmes getting it disastrously wrong at one point!

Sherlock Holmes: The Scarlet Claw (1944) A return to the old fashion Baskervilles type of mystery at last leaving the wartime setting behind although Churchill does get a mention at the end in a rather cheesy speech delivered by Holmes which I'm none too sure the Canadians of today would appreciate!

Solaris (2002) I'm sure someone somewhere would say this was thinking mans sci-fi but for me it was a bit of a snooze fest!

Stake Land (2011) Hmmm! I've seen better!

Star Trek (2010) Not a bad movie but kind of ruined by the excessive lens flare! (Sometimes seeing the extras on the disc isnt always a good thing!)
