I fully appreciate the different views on Holocaust, there are convincing arguments on both sides. Personally i just think its Italian schlock, nothing more nothing less.

If you have the opposite view then thats ok by me. We aren't going to suddenly change our minds with a few typed lines on here.

This That And The Other!

Trilogy of stories comprising one of those strange UK 'sex comedies' from the early 70s, starring various Brit faces including John Bird and Dennis Waterman when he was about 12. Also notable for brief appearances from Hammer starlets Valerie Leon and a skinny - dipping Yutte Stensgaard.

It's strange - I rewatched CH he other day. I didn't review it, because I didn't see the point (I didn't want to inflame the whole animal cruelty thing again, which would've taken up all of the five lines I usually give myself). I do think it's a desperately cynical film on all kinds of levels, and, because of the nature of the nihilism it so virulently displays - I'm not just talking about the obviously exploitative elements - it reaches a cognitive threshold that few genre flicks at the time even aspired to, but, simultaneously, in terms of the imagery and tone it deploys, it plumbs depths few filmmakers of the time would want to associate with either. Except for the Mondo crews it seems to want to satirise. Out of all the screwed up films I've seen, it's still one of the ones I find most difficult to talk about.

Me too, but I do love discussing the film I must say. For years I thought the film was a complete anomaly - it's obviously a far superior film to the likes of Cannibal Ferox and Slave of the Cannibal God and so on, but after seeing Last Cannibal World, I could see Deodato was working towards Cannibal Holocaust. I thought Last Cannibal World was a terrific film...

Started watching "golden age" HK films again, the thing I like most is how unpredictable they are.
You can never guess what's coming next!

Expect some reviews soon...

Wow, I must see this as well. Is the Film4 version the full length film ? I gotta say I didn't like any of John Woo's American films, but I'd definitely like to see this one...

Be warned, it is lo-ng! On the other hand I would never call it boring and I've watched it four times now! I always find something new in it that I hadn't noticed before.

Ah that's not a problem here... Bela Tarr's 7-hour Sátántangó is a favourite of mine (and a film that seems shorter than a lot of 90min stuff)...
Frankie Teardrop and troggi like this.
