I saw Inception today and went in with high expectations which were not only met, but surpassed by quite some way. It seems that Nolan is developing as a filmmaker at an astonishing rate as this is better than not only Insomnia but his two Batman films as well.

Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor who never seems to have a bad movie as I thought he was superb in Shutter Island and just about everything he has done since This Boy's Life and What's Eating Gilbert Grape? all those years ago. The casting is spot on with a remarkable supporting cast including Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy and (quite surprisingly) Joseph Gordon-Levitt, all of whom are brilliant.

It is a film with so many different concepts, layers and plot twists that it will be a definite buy on Blu-ray as it will be, without a shadow of a doubt, a movie that will benefit from repeated viewings.

Slugs is a nice little B-movie. Some of the lines are great. Not as memorable as 'Pieces' but some of the slug/gore scenes are wonderful.

With regards to Isla She Wolf of the SS mentioned above - I've seen it once and don't know where it gets it reputation from - even in the realm of Nazisploitation. It's just a very boring waste of time IMO.

Revolver - really enjoyed this, especially the performances of Fabio Testi and Oliver Reed. I need to check out more Sergio Sollima films on the basis of this and Violent City, which is even better IMO.

Stuart Gordon's "From Beyond", bloody awful. I've changed so much since seeing it on release when I loved it, now I find it plain daft and an insult to Lovecraft. Odd, how views change over time.

"Bronson", loved this one. I really enjoyed the mix of art house and Brit hard man brutality.

Vengeance
Big chunks of this film with its prolonged character bouts followed by drawn out gun battles feel so familiar. It could easily be partnered up with "The Mission" and "Exiled" as again this is basically a story of honour amongst killers for hire. Johnny Halliday's fish out of water character brings a fresh eliment and his performance is spot on. The fact that ("Momento" like.) he needs to take photographs of people to remember who they are due to a bullet lodged in his brain adds a strange twist to the idea of revenge when the main character could easily just forget it all. A solid cast of Johnnie To regulars bring this story to life with Anthony Wong and Simon Yam once again delivering the goods.

Jack Frost
Way more fun than this deserves to be, this horror film follows the brilliantly named serial killer Jack Frost who is on his way to be executed when he is involved in an accident where genetically enhanced chemicals are sprayed all over him. He disolves, but instead of being killed his DNA mixes with snow and he becomes a murderous snowman who decides to get revenge on the small town sheriff who arrested him. Bad acting. Bad script and awful effects (I can't call them "special".) are helped by some twisted black humour, some of which is actually intentional. A sequel followed. I can't wait.

Lone Wolf And Cub: Babycart To Hades
The third film in what is easily becoming one of my all time favourite film series is a bit of a slow burner and like the ones before it has just as much simmering emotion as it has gory action. In this adventure another Samurai seeks the answer to a question- "What makes a Warrior?" This film features one set piece where our hero and son face around 100 attackers. It's needless to say the poor attackers have no chance.

Zombie Flesh Eaters 3
Gory Italian horror with no connection to the previous Zombie Flesh Eaters films. Badly acted and mostly plain stupid, the lead male actor of this was a porn star trying out something different. My main quibble is that I still find the idea of Zombies with guns hard to take. Average stuff all the way....... and that is a farly generous assessment.
