Gave a second viewing to Otis last night. It really is a film that needs more than one viewing due to its mish mash of styles. The film opens with a violent murder then transforms itself during its 100 minute running time into a hilariously viscious satire. Bostin Christopher’s Otis is a nightmare of a man. Horrifically intense with childlike malice that uneases throughout the film. Kevin Pollack co-stars as his brother, with Daniel Stern and Ileanna Douglas. I would descibe the film as Last House on the Left with a wicked twist. Oh and its funnier.....and possibly more violent. |

I also gave another watch to The Hudsucker Proxy. The Coen Brothers wonderfull hurrah to the screwball comedies made famous by the likes of Frank Capra and Preston Sturges of the 1940's. The film stars Tim Robbins as a naïve business-school graduate who is installed as president of a manufacturing company, Jennifer Jason Leigh as a newspaper reporter, and Paul Newman as a company director who hires the young man as part of a stock scam. Leighs performance as a fast talking reporter is reminiscent of Katherine Hepburn in Bringing up Baby and Rosalind Russell in His Girl Friday. If you have never seen this wonderfull film buy it now, if you have it, then watch it again. |

The Hudsucker Proxy is a film I've always meant to buy but haven't yet done so. I suppose it will eventually be released on DVD so there's little point in picking up a DVD unless it is really cheap. I've just finished watching Don't Go into the Woods... Alone which, despite some incredibly wooden acting and slightly leaden script, works because of some decent suspenseful situations and innovative murder scenes.

Currently watching Ratman. The fact that I am on here typing about it should give a good indication of how much it's keeping my attention. I watched the French Connection earlier. I had never seen it before and though tit was an excellent film. I was so ignorant about the whole thing I didn't even know it was based on a real case until I had a proper read of the back of the dvd box! |

Ratman is a better film whilst watched, sipping a single malt. |

Bit early in the day perhaps, but I have a large glass of rose wine on the go. Almost the same!

Never watch films during the day. Doesn't seem right.
