[QUOTE=Demoncrat;431219]Bit of a mixed bag this time....

We Still Kill The Old Way (2014, Sacha Bennet).
Even more right wing than Harry Brown, this hoot shows some "old school" gangsters taking on todays yoof. Ian Oglivy!! Need I say more, geezer??

I though this was a pretty decent watch like said old school versus today showing how gang or gangsters where then compared with today's youth gangs etc.
Only problem I had with this film is felt it could have been a tadge longer due to fact felt ending was a little bit rushed and was over and done with before it even got going.

Return to salems lot

Just awful, horrible acting, terrible direction, one the most annoying children I have seen in any film and less scary than a episode of scooby doo. 3/10

Fright night

A cracking 80s vampire comedy, while not as good as near dark or the lost boys, but has a style of its own, genuinely funny with likable characters espically roddy McDowell character Peter Vincent which is a homage to the two greats Peter Cushing and Vincent price. 8/10

Fright night 2

Not as good as the first and plays out virtually the same story with a few tweaks and differences but enjoyable enough and a lot better than the two recent movies. 7.5/10

The hobbit

Enjoyable return to middle Earth, does take awhile to get going, but once it does it's none stop ride of action, adventure and comedy. 8.5/10

The hobbit the desolation of smaug

My favourite of the hobbit movies . None stop action from the get go with some wonderful set pieces but let down by some poor CGI( the barrel scene ) 9.5/10

Continuing my Middle earth marathon with the fellowship of the ring.

What can I say, somewhere between 40's Bob Kane and the sixties series in feel, I certainly enjoyed this more than the big Hollywood productions. Not perfect but without a doubt entertaining. And nice to see the Justice league make an appearance.

Hardware.

Posy apocalyptic knock off of a 2000ad Tharg's future shocks story, Hardware is a stylish and entertaining film from Richard Stanley, a man who has made nowhere near enough films. The film makes good use of public images ORDER OF DEATH as well as a score from simon boswell and in spite of the effects work now looking a little ropey it holds up admirably.

Exorcist (theatrical cut)

Personally I prefer this to the extended cut(s) that are out there, works perfectly as a genuinely scary and well crafted horror with some brilliant effects work and some magnificent sound design. It's been legally available for some time now with no signs of traumatised young girls in need of therapy so that's you proved wrong James Ferman!

Exorcist 2.

When the first film was a success but you don't understand why, Exorcist 2 is a great example of what you get. This one plays more like THE VISITOR but with less charm (or Jesus Franco Nero). Its looks wonderful in places, ennio morricone's score is excellent, but as a film it simply DOES NOT WORK!
Hopefully at some point this week I can get the much better part 3 watched.

As most people know, The Exorcist is my all-time favourite film, the one I believe to be the greatest horror film ever made, and one I've seen well over 100 times, possibly 200 times. The theatrical cut is my preferred version because the scenes which aren't in this version, but are in 'The Version You've Never Seen' (aka The Director's Cut) work in isolation and on paper, but are less effective within the film. They are just slightly overwritten, unnecessary or the timing doesn't work particularly well.

As you said, the score is very good and there are a couple of very handsome camera moves within scenes, but the overall film is a complete mess. Perhaps the main problem is the acting, with Richard Burton looking entirely disinterested (no wonder there were rumours of alcoholism at the time), James Earl Jones appearing as if he has stumbled on set from different film shoot, Louise Fletcher struggling with the subject material and script and even Linda Blair, who is generally better than the films in which she appears, looking bored.

Despite studio interference, The Exorcist III is an entirely different proposition.

Danger Diabolik

Reminds me of when James Bond films were cartoonishly great, and as ever with Bava this looks amazing. So much fun.

I still need to watch this, especially since I've turned into a DC Comics freak of late.

Spotted Richard Domeier from Evil Dead II in the Michael J. Fox movie, Teen Wolf. The scene only lasts a few seconds, but I'm pretty sure it's him. TEEN WOLF was total cheese, but I enjoyed it.

I thought Return of the King was the weakest of the trilogy, with Fellowship of the Ring as the best – the final instalment was too long and had too many endings.
