The first one is pretty over rated IMO. It's a good movie, but not amazing.
The second one is amazing, the series is truly superb

May have hated it even more than the appalling Blood: The Last Vampire...wait...that may not be possible
In times like this I would think of a whitey comment. But ill just quote Bleach instead. "Are you retarded Bro?!".
And also, I do find it hard to understand how you can hate GitS and yet like The Brain that would not Die?! MST3K where right to tear into that piece of shit, not even in an ironic manner like all the other movies that where on there. Just saying you know.

Meh. The Brain That Wouldn't Die was entertaining. I never claimed it was an all-time favourite or classic - it isn't. but it's fun.

Ghost In The Shell mind-numbingly boring and ugly to look at. It offered me nothing at all.

Everyone's different.

Nah, i'm the reverse. The Brain that Wouldnt Die is part of that special area of b-movies that had no effert put into it and the end result was like the public toilets of Bolton. Shity beyond words, no redeaming features at all. Ghost in the Shell is a very good character study, utelising religious imagery well (not to OTT like NGE) and has enough high concepts mixed with action set pieces to keep me entertained every time I watch it. I have only seen tBtwD more than once thanks to the legends at MST3K, one of there finest hours.

I found Ghost In The shell to be ultra dull but nowhere near as dull as Ghost In The Shell 2, that film made me fall asleep. Recently watched Summer Wars which was ****ing stunning, highly recommend it.

Manga is unreadable because of the art style too!* It's not just the motion pictures. It's the whole style of artwork itself. The childlike features those horrid big eyes, the weird and disturbing and uncomfortable visual world and their inhabitants - it's the stuff of nightmares.

Let me try to ease my way in with Perfect Blue...

*I couldn't even read "Scott Pilgrim" because of the massive Japanese influence on the art style.
I'm the complete opposite!!! GITS is one of my favourite films ever. I can, however, understand someone NOT liking it.

Can you rent it on lovefilm?

If so I would second checking out black lagoon, it manages to avoid a lot (not all) of the usual anime tropes..

Also looks like my mum has bought me the us import version of BLACK LAGOON for my birthday. (both series at the same price as just one uk version, and last time I checked funimation didnt region lock their blus, not that that matters to me you understand.)

Yeah, me too.

I'm not usually a big fan of animated films, but I recently watched Mamoru Oshii's Angel's Egg, and found it to be very good.
