The Young, The Evil And The Savage (1968, Antonio Margheriti)

Unsubbed print on YT. It's about a maniac stalking types at a finishing school, do I need the script tbh??? The olbigatory 25 year olds play the "girls" hahaha. Enjoyable romp (trimmed??), would like a decent print certainly ....

The House Of Lost Souls. 1989.

A group of people stay at a rundown hotel unbeknown to them what lies ahead.

Another T.V, movie entry for Umberto Lenzi but this one does pay off a bit better with the added in suspense, ok it may not be a original concept of a story but this was plotted together well except for another annoying little kid who squeals higher than a soprano. The film can be quite predictable and different kills are shown here with a nice decapitation that ended the squeals. However there is a noticeable background score that was taken from Demons, enjoyable movie for to some and may be boring to others.

Up next Zombie Flesh Eaters.

Happy Hell Night (1991)

A slasher based around a fraternity dare which forces members of Pi Delta Sigma to go to the local asylum and take a photo in the cell of a notorious madman who slaughtered some college kids 25 years previously.

It's a shame but Happy Hell Night, despite it's gory kills, is a film which completely fails in the suspense building dept. The killer, who looks a little like Mr Barlow from Salem's Lot is a decent creation until he opens his mouth after every one of his ice pick murders and wisecracks in a helium infused voice "No shagging" and other lines like this, dragging the terror factor down to a sub Krueger level.

Certainly watchable, with plenty of grue and gratuitous nudity, and a fairly well known cast - Darren McGavin, Sam Rockwell and Jorja Fox, Happy Hell Night is a film of what might have been rather than a classic in it's own right.

Despite my best efforts to like it by watching it every few Halloweens it's pretty damn dismal all told.

Cemetery Man (1994)

After wasting the previous ninety minutes with Happy Hell Night ,what better way of getting back into the Halloween groove than Anna Falchi's boobs.

THE HOWLING (1981)

Great practical effects show for Rick Baker and Rob Bottin.
This movie is fun to try and pick out the guest appearances and all the cast named after people from werewolf movies.
Pino Donaggio's score is suitably haunting.

30 Days Of Unseen Horror

Day 7

Maniac-Farmer-Banner.jpg

A gang of punks my grandmother wouldn't be afraid of led by the comically named Blasphemous Rex are carrying out random murders across town to satisfy their thirst for chaos. Eventually people like this always cross the wrong person someone who just wants to get on with life but once they are pushed there is no going back. Blasphemour Rex and two other members pick on a local farmer but he has other idea and the tables are quickly turned.

Straight away the acting is terrible the theme song is the biggest White Zombie / Rob Zombie rip off of all time. Blasphemour Rex looks like the biggest hipster punk you have ever seen and he has the stupidest accent i have ever heard. He is trying to sound English maybe to go with the punk thing but wait a couple of lines later he has an Australian accent then a deep south accent. Then the gang members are just as bad one guy has a pentagram badly drawn on his chest is comical that these guys are supposed to be evil oooookkkkaaaaayyyy.

The two cops that are on the case to take down the gang are bloody terrible it's nit that their acting is bad its the dialogue they are been handed is horrendous they didnt stand a chance really. Even worse when ever they are driving its like a 30s film where the background is just in a stupid and they are just sitting in a dummy car it looks terrible.

I always try give newer horror films a shot and especially low budget but more often than not they are complete shit. I understand they are working on a shoestring but there is no excuse for nothing happening and i mean absolutely nothing happens love the idea but the execution was terrible.

It did have a cool looking blown off ankle but thats was as good as it got. Cant even say it was a decent effort sadly.

2/10

Zombie Flash Eaters. 1979.

A journalist teams up with a young girl who's father's boat ran ashore empty and tries to locate his last whereabouts on a tropical island that is cursed with a plague that makes the dead rise again.

The Zombie flick that was made and then put on the video nasty list, was it a video nasty or just a nasty government headed by a campaigner who probably never saw the film and wanted to ruin people's entertainment.

This Arrow release had a nice intro by Ian McCulloch (who has aged well btw) who saw the film for the first time 10 years ago and now understands the cult following it has and why some of us love it.

The plot is simple even Angie who isn't a fan of Italian/American horror film was able to enjoy it, there is a nice gore fest mixed with some decent make-up effects that were available at the time and budget concerns maybe but we do see one or two heads being bashed open and a woman getting her throat bitten out, and one decent eye impaling, aside from noticeable bad
dubbing the actors are decent and make it more entertaining, Thank you Mr Fulci for the masterpiece.

Day 6.

A fantastic film that as well as mixing comedy and zombies too near perfection it is also a wonderful love letter to zombie movies in general , especially the work of Romero. A classic 9.5/10

A young woman is involved in a accident and is disfigured so a revolution form of plastic surgery is used, everything appears to have gone fine until she becomes super horny seeking sex and blood infecting people and turning them into rabid cannibals . Highly enjoyable if a little slow in places and the sets and some of the acting is a little wodden! Really can't see it this would of worked as well with the first choice of sissy spacek in the main role. 7.5/10

Now watching the evil.

As well as movie going to listen to some audio books have these two lined up.

Day 7

As mentioned in another review a great little haunted house film , which shows that you don't need a huge budget and expensive special effects for a effective movie as long as you have a good script and cast.

A professor alone with his wife, gets various friends and students to help tidy up a mansion he has just purchased. Strange and mysterious things start happening bodies start dropping and they become trapped with something evil.

It might of just been me, but did the dog when it jumped out of the cupboard and chased the woman , sounded like a tie fighter. 8/10

Shivers. 1975.

Residents of a high rise building are being attacked by a parasite that once it attaches itself to the host it turns them into mindless sex crazed maniacs by the slightness sexual contact.

Back in the day David Cronenberg probably had a low budget for this with the help of Ivan Reitman created this little piece of cinematic horror gem, It shows how a first time director can create a story involving parasite that some previous films have done and instead of making the host stark raving killers this just turns them stark raving sex maniacs.

Paul Hampton and Joe Silver play the two doctors who try to understand the mind of a well known professor who created the parasite, killed the young host and himself before it goes out of control. The suspense is well played out as you don't know who is infected and where the infected people are hiding out, this a a good number to watch every so often.
