A derivative whatever you want to call it that fails to acknowledge any of the Halloween sequels whilst ripping them all off at the same time. A film seemingly without an original idea of it's own.

Tell me if you've seen any of these scenes before?

Michael Myers gets visitors whilst in the asylum - Rob Zombie's Halloween

Student looks out of window of class and sees weird figure on the lawns - Halloween

The bus transporting Myers to another loony bin crashes and Michael escapes - Halloween 4 The Return of Michael Myers

Myers kills the mechanics at a roadside gas station - Halloween 4 The Return of Michael Myers

A woman is trapped alone in a roadside lavatory as Myers stalks her - Halloween H20

One character is a cool guy in a cowboy hat and boots - Halloween 5 The Revenge of Michael Myers

A woman is murdered in her kitchen on Halloween night - Halloween II

A character in a bedroom is hidden under a sheet with eyeholes cut out - Halloween

There's a new Loomis type doctor hunting Myers - Halloween and also II, 4, 5 and 6 To be fair someone says to him "You're the new Loomis then?"

New Loomis drives round Haddonfield on Halloween night with the local sheriff - Halloween, Halloween II

A seemingly trust worthy doctor goes rogue with other ideas for Myers - Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers

Plus there are a couple of role reversals from the original Halloween

Loomis searching for Myers with emphasis on a wardrobe and Myers sends Jamie Lee Curtis tumbling off a first floor balcony

Meanwhile the writers had obviously decided Jamie Lee should become a gun toting Sarah Connor with an arsenal of arms in her basement. Was Linda Hamilton unavailable? And whoever cast screachy Judy Greer must have been out of their mind.

And that's before we even start on Halloween Woke.

The only good thing about Halloween (2018) was the soundtrack by John Carpenter.

Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972)

Despite being at odds with the earlier Hammer Dracula films continuity wise, Alan Gibson's film brings the famed vampire and arch nemesis Van Helsing kicking and screaming into contemporary London.

Featuring bloody black masses and groovy sounds this is a product of it's time but it does feature the best showdown between Christopher Lee's Dracula and Peter Cushing's Van Helsing in a frantic finale.

I do love how the eminent expert on all things Dracula and the Occult needs to do a line diagram to figure out that Alucard is Dracula spelled back to front.

I really need to compose a proper review for this film.
When i saw Halloween 2018 in the cinema i thought that was great all the way up until you first reviewed it and i went back and watched it once it was released on Blu Ray and i just kept thinking christ sake everytime a part you pointed out happened

I still like it but no where near as much as i did when i saw it first and maybe even less again after this latest breakdown

Agreed about the soundtrack it gets played a lot here.

Bloodstone: Subspecies II. 1993.

With one of the American students has turned to being a vampire she steals the bloodstone with Radu on her trail to reclaim it and her sister has come to help save her soul.

The film starts where the first one ended...just about, Radu has survived being killed and by his minions, little devils He is on the trail to get his family bloodline back, I wasn't a fan of this sequel but certainly made more entertaining with a bit more of a darker tone to Radu and top notch make-up, the plot does go a bit all over the place but the background score does go well, and we are introduced to Radu's mother who looks well for a ageing corpse.

Bloodlust: Subspecies III. 1994.

Still trying to save her sister from Radu who now wants to be shown the way of being a vampire, Becca teams with a detective and a marine from the American Embassy to end Radu's reign.

This one really doesn't make it too serious in the franchise, shot back to back with number II and a bit of a lower budget spent on this, it's actually not that bad, Becca trying to make everyone believe there is a vampire and when they do believe they start becoming a "Van Helsing trio".

This seems to have more of a character build up with Radu and Mother or mummy more like and progression of the story of love bit like Dracula looking for his bride and the Bloodstone that seems to have grown in size that it looks like a small football, again we are given some good make-up effects and mild gore.

Was having a look last night at what I haven't seen in a while and came across them so downloaded them, didn't realise there was a tie in with Vampire Journal.

It's interesting you loving Land of the Dead Dem.

Because although i like it, it has always felt to me like a greatest hits package of the earlier trilogy, with the apartment refuge feeling a retread of the supermarket in Dawn and the thinking zombies a direct line back to Bub in Day.

I feel the actual story is lightweight and kinda fizzles out. It doesn't affect me like the originals.

Whereas I really like the new Halloween film, yep sure that's incredibly derivative as well, but it's done with a certain amount of style and pace that for me the sequels after 4 didn't come close to, obviously helped immensely by the Carpenter soundtrack.

But I've also never been a fan of H20, I've tried to like it but it just seems a bit bland to me, I much prefer Jamie in the new film.

I guess it depends what you are looking for and we all have our opinions.

Have to agree to disagre ,i guess.

It's set years after Day so if one zombie can gain a form of intelligence it goes without saying others will too.

Embellishing a theme isn't the same as lifting scenes directly from previous films which is what Halloween did.

Besides it's Romero taking the zombie timeline a stage further. I'd avoid Survival of the Dead totally if you don't appreciate that.

I hated Diary of the dead and Survival was superior to it

I'll just say this then ...

When I rewatched that Halloween, when he was on screen fine, the rest was padding as far as I'm concerned. Ahem. I shall watch it again in that spirit to boot.

Now I'm off to watch RLM further tarnish their rep with this Carpenter ranking thing. It's been hilarious tbh.

Both are severely lacking sadly. I loved Survival of the Dead on first watch but subsequent viewings have not been kind.

Although, yes, i do agree that Survival is superior to Diary. Diary has it's moments though and it's kinda cool how the two are linked and happen at the same time.
