I was really annoyed last year when Arrow released the Black Cat set. On the day of release at Amazon, someone had a copy listed as 'collectible' at £75. The day of release! There are still new copies available now for £25. |

You'd have to be very rich, stupid, determined, or a combination of all three, to spend upwards of £450 on something which, although a stunning set, is ostensibly a luxury item containing films which will later retail for a sum total of under £100. Mine came today and is something to be treasured but, if someone offered me £500 for it, I'd accept without a moment's hesitation.

I watched unboxing videos on YouTube for each of the HGLewis sets. They're both pretty impressive looking, and the posters for the films make them look really intriguing and cool for someone such as I, who hasn't actually seen any of them. The trailers for the films though...they look dire!! As groundbreaking as the films surely were I don't think I would sit through any of them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I watched Splatter University last night and it got me thinking about this post. Splatter U is awful! I watched the trailer in the special features, and it makes the film look awful! But ... the film is right up my street! I love trash films like this, and I love the Troma movies and others of the similar style to Troma movies. I suppose the H G Lewis films look much the same style to what Troma generally seem to be going for... I don't know then, what it is about the Lewis films I don't find appealing. I like the sleazy 70s and 80s vibe that Troma encapsulate. Maybe I'm just not as attracted to the earlier styles. The fashions of the Punk and Hippie culture probably helped make things look genuinely dirtier and sleazier, whereas the films coming out of America in the the 50s and 60s were a lot more clean cut looking - the men all wore suits and shirts, and the youth element were still pretty clean with more rock and roll and rockabilly fashions. It's a thinker... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
