John Barrowman: Release of new Torchwood audio story scrapped / BBC News

"...An audio story featuring John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, his character from Doctor Who and spin-off Torchwood, has been pulled from release.

Torchwood: Absent Friends was made by Big Finish, the company licensed by the BBC to produce official Doctor Who and Torchwood audio plays.

It was due to be released this month. In it, Captain Jack was due to be reunited with the Doctor, voiced by David Tennant, who played the character on TV between 2005-2010.

A Big Finish spokesperson said: "We have no plans to publish this title at this time."..."

"Delia Derbyshire: The Myths and the Legendary Tapes

Review
She captivated and spooked generations of kids with her eerie (never bettered) arrangement of the Doctor Who theme, but Delia Derbyshire died of alcoholism in relative obscurity 20 years ago. At the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop in the 1960s, she’d loved creating sounds that had never been heard before, sounds of and for the future. So surely she’d have been chuffed to know that her legacy (including 267 tapes found and preserved after her death) continues to inspire art from her admirers.

Doc Martin star Caroline Catz has written, directed and stars in this vivid portrait of Derbyshire, a docu-drama that captures her spirit and talent, underscored by a soundscape of Delia’s compositions mixed by avant-garde musician Cosey Fanni Tutti.

Friends and colleagues, including Brian Hodgson (played in the drama by Julian Rhind-Tutt) and David Vorhaus, warmly shed light on Derbyshire’s quirks and driving force.

Summary
Docudrama portrait of Delia Derbyshire, the electronic sound pioneer behind the Doctor Who theme tune, exploring the idea that this extraordinary composer herself lived outside of time and space. Delia's story is told through two archives: the first, a collection of lost works, 267 reels of quarter-inch magnetic tape recordings of Delia's work found in her attic after her death, the other, her school books, paintings and keepsakes, discovered in her childhood bedroom."
