Certainly an influence in the pre-credits sequence. I also felt it also used ideas from Soylent Green, Michael Crichton's book Prey as well as other Doctor Who stories such as The Girl Who Waited and perhaps New Earth.

A strong start to the tenth series so far.

I was a bit apprehensive before watching SMILE, but I must admit I quite enjoyed it. In fact, arguably it got better as it went along.

Two stories in and neither of them classics, but they have both been much more enjoyably straightforward and accessable to the casual viewer.

Looking forward to next week.

I think this is also true. It had become way too convoluted.

There's also a mini arc starting about the vault which is good.

I quite liked how the episode finished at the start of the next story. very Hartnell like it was.

In fact the whole thing was like a first Doctor story.

Make that four.

Not bad was it.

Stunning architectural design of that building though. Good use of location, and me beaming at Miss Mackie's rather lovely figure like a emojibot.

Who could ask for more....

Well, nobody seems to hate it, even on the more New Who sceptic sites. Cautiously optimistic.
