Oh yeah i didn't think about that Iank.

But that was just a pimped out set of Daleks that were set up as leaders etc, They may have looked a bit shitter than the originals but would still have been evil bastards underneath.

The Gatiss take on the Ice warriors i like, even though some people had a problem with having one out of the suit in Cold war i personally didn't mind.

Whereas Chibnal i felt overly humanised the Silurians and turned them into less of a fearful alien race.

I like new who still but it really grates with me when original monsters races are altered beyond recognition.

Likewise Sontarans are suppose to be evil torturous warriors not comic relief.

If they wanted a very human alien why not bring back the Draconians or something else.

For comic relief how about Ogrons who basically look like Bill Bailey anyway and have the stupid element already.

Much like the production team then hoped everyone would.
I'm guessing that was a Moffat/production team/BBC idea which Gatiss had to work with.

Empress of Mars

While last weeks was a huge disappointment with its awful practical joke on Bill and its vomit inducing ending here we go from one of the worst epiosdes to one of the best in years with a great 70s pertwee feel.

It isn't one i rate. Probably because it's so unlike Doctor Who of the time.

It's certainly weird and wonderful and could have imagined it in McCoy's first season or Matt Smith's second.

Like pretty much every story (Yes even Fear Her and Time and the Rani) it has parts which are great though.

I really liked it and I think it has a lot to do with it not being like story's of the time and its weird and wonderful as you say and strangely the lack of budget seems to help it, it was a bit strange keep hearing the name the master, before we are introduced to the master.

Saw Empress of Mars last night. Rather enjoyed that one, certainly a vast improvement on the Monks trilogy (what a pain in the rear end waste of time that all was). Given this seems to be Gatiss' last script (Chibnall is bringing in a whole new raft of writers, apparently, and not before time!) it's a good one to finish on. A few new series-related niggles aside (i.e it was rushed, a few moments of PC wankery and the arc plot unnecessarily butting in) this was a very enjoyable slice of refreshingly unpretentious oldskool fun with some cliched but fun guest characters (nice to see the guy from New Tricks in it, and he was good too). Not bad at all, probably joint with Oxygen as the best of the season to date.
And I can't believe they brought Alpha Centauri back!
