Quote: so looks like the picture quality is not a huge improvement (which was expected) but is worth it for the extras. as said elsewhere i hope they get the other season out sharpish or it will take years. |

got rid of mine, so if they release most of them its a cheaper way to get them and save room, but i could see it taking years if the bbc dont get them out sharpish

And if they don't release every season on bluray? Madness, i'd have done it as seasons were announced perhaps but not all at once. Then again you're a lore unto yourself when it comes to buying discs. |

Watching the robot and while the picture quality was never going to be amazing , there is a notable difference as colours more lifelike and colourful also levels of detail on uniforms etc can be seen BUT it's been sometime since I've watched it and don't have the DVD to compare it too, so wil! Interesting what someone thinks who can. So I would rate picture a 3 and not a 2 like blu rage

I spent 10 years collecting my DVD collection of Who's, so I will be giving the Blu Ray a miss. On a happier note it now feels like Hinchcliffe and Holmes have taken over completely, which is a good thing. Planet of Evil Episode 1 may just be the single best episode of the season. The tone, even by Season 12 standards and Terror of the Zygons, just feels so scary. Everything, from the opening shot of the ominous planet, to the planet and the jungle (to this day: THE single best alien planet and jungle the show has done), to the atmosphere, to The Doctor and Sarah turning up at a pitch black deserted camp where bad stuff clearly went down, to 1987 Predator coming at them from the jungle (it always reminds me of Predator, the somewhat not quite perfected invisibility and all that)… Perfection. It feels like a horror film, perhaps even more so than Brain of Morbius. The suspense does continue as it goes on, with the stuff at the pit being a particular highlight. I do think it loses steam ever so slightly towards the end, when they're running around corridors as opposed to Zeta Minor. I wish they'd stayed in the jungle. And I find the original Predator looking threat, especially when its offscreen at the start, to be a better villain than the Professor clones towards the end. All the same I loved this one a lot by the end. Episode 1 is the highlight. |
