Just finished Penny Dreadful season 3 another great season with usual fantastic acting( especially Eve Green)and gripping story. But sadly that's it as its not getting another season, but at least unlike a lot of shows it ends with some sort of closure. but i could of seen it continue as it introduced a couple of interesting new characters that would of generated new plot/story ideas.

I'm one episode into the John Mills Quatermass from 1979.

Although quite slow to start this quirky British affair ups the weirdness in the second half when we are introduced to two factions. Those manning the satellite dishes and a new age group of people, very Pagan in looks, who think they are going to leave earth and visit the cosmos.

Playing out as a clash of cultures and ideals in a Britain descending back to the dark ages, i'm rather enjoying this four part series.

For those interested, the dvd from Network really looks the business and has two crisp sound options as well as a detailed 30 odd page booklet by tv historian Andrew Pixley.

Quatermass (1979)

I liked it but didn't find it especially gripping with parts of it being incredibly drawn out. However it's clash of cultures and weird England feel always made it interesting adding to the myths of aliens and stone circles.

John Mills was very good as an older Bernard Quatermass and the series had some excellent location work and sets both out in the countryside and the streets even Wembley stadium which was used to chilling effect as were the gunfights in the streets of terraced houses, showing a horrific vision of a Britain gone to pieces. The series final moments as the button was pushed i found quite affecting.

I'll certainly watch the series again but i think my next viewing of it in a couple of months will be the cut down by 100 minutes feature film version which was released over seas.

I've been on a mammoth marathon re-watch of every episode of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and 'Angel'. I've been watching every ep of both shows in strict chronological order following this blogger's watching guide. I'm now on Buffy season 7 and Angel season 4. One more season of Angel after this and I'm done.
