Another cracking Gothic tale, this time adapted by Peter Harness who went on to write a clever two part Zygon story for Doctor Who's 9th season.

Whilst it's not a top level James adaptation on the lines of the 70's likes of The Stalls of Barchester or A Warning to the Curious, it's still a cracking bit of eerie television with a shock ending - the unseen force dragging the poor chap up the hill to the gallows is wonderfully disturbing.
I really liked that one. I'm surprised the boxset hasn't been reissued again with the Mark Gatiss story The Tractate Middoth included. The documentary Gatiss did as well would be a nice inclusion.

The final episode of Planet Earth II yesterday was absolutely amazing.

Seeing how animals adapt to our cities, featuring fun - the monkeys, violence - the leopards killing young pigs in India and heartbreaking - the plight of those poor turtles...i really thought it was the best episode yet.

It was slightly ruined by the upsetting sight of David at the end looking like a propped up corpse talking about London on top of The Shard.

Highlight for me was the monkey brazenly steeling that lad's bottle of orange juice

Anything where turtles die is bound to get me blubbing. They're so cute. I've had a pet tortoise since i was 4 years old, so i guess its linked to that, but damn i hate seeing turtles get eaten.

I have been watching them quite quickly over the past week and it has been an astonishing series. The level of research, commitment by the 'scouts' and camera crews to research and then spend long periods of time in some incredibly inhospitable environments, sometimes with dangerous predators, is praiseworthy in itself, but the beautiful footage which comes from the high definition cameras is sometimes breathtaking.

Finally caught up with The Exorcist, looking forward to the season finale at the weekend now. It is a great show that is really respectful to both the original film and novel, highly recommended (unless you're J Harker )
