Is that any good? Picked myself up a copy a few weeks ago, Still haven't watched it yet.
Just a crappy standard single disc release though, No fancy slip covers or anything like you guys are talking about.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 9th July 2011 02:33 PM

I went shopping on Amazon.com yesterday and picked up the following BDs:

The Red Shoes: Criterion Collection
Black Narcissus: Criterion Collection
All About Eve: Digibook

While I was at it, I ordered a couple of Roger Corman DVDs:

The Slumber Party Massacre Collection
Attack of the Crab Monsters / War of the Satellites / Not of This Earth

I'm a bi fan of Van Bebbers Dead Beat At Dawn, if you have seen and lied that then you should like this too. It's very stylised and very brutal. Im looking forward to seeing the special features on disk 2 as I've only seen it on Love Film rental with no extras.

I did wonder! What's the difference between those releases and the anthology box set?

(the last 2 are both the result of overly-competitive eBay bidding - The Bird...came to just under £12 which is ok but to be honest it's a release I could do without for the time being, already owning the Blue Underground release. Would sooner have spent the money on a film I don't have but got carried away. Really not sure what I was thinking with the Robocop one!)

This week's arrivals.......

PaulD 9th July 2011 08:23 PM

Haha, yeah, the art is nice, I do like the uniform look to the set. Bit pricey for my tastes though! Took me ages to justify taking the plunge on the BD set as it is since I already own the anthology dvd set.

I haven't seen The Resident yet. Have you already seen it before buying this Blu? What's it like?

I'm asking because I am tempted by a gorgeous-looking Hilary Swank and an old Christopher Lee. ;)

Greetings!

platostotal 9th July 2011 09:03 PM

Second that, 'The Resident' seems ok but got pretty bad reviews, that means nothing though as no one here seems to have anything to say about it. Like to hear some views.

Some good stuff there Reaps, I saw Alucarda at the cinema a few years ago and it's completely bonkers !

Is that the same Nail gun Massacre you sold to me or a different edition?

darthelvis 10th July 2011 09:21 AM

Picked up La Setta DVD & Dellamorte Dellamore (Italian release) Blu Ray.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 10th July 2011 09:47 AM

I'll probably end up buying Dellamorte Dellamorte on BD if I like the film enough. In the meantime, I'm waiting for the limited-edition MediaBook to arrive from Germany.

Nope. It's a blind buy based on reputation and recommendations from several people here -- I hope they're right!

bdc 10th July 2011 09:56 AM

It's really good imho. :)

Nice coincidence - yesterday I decided to order Carry on Nurse the next few days after having been overwhelmed by a fantastic-looking Shirley Eaton in Ten Little Indians.

Greetings!

The Last Chase - 30th Anniversary Director's Cut (1981) (Code Red)

oaxaca 11th July 2011 12:56 PM

I emailed axel asking why they didn't stock the Canadian release of CANNIBAL GIRLS on BD the other day as its 20 quid odd elsewhere when shipping is factored in. They duly obliged and I just bought it for 14.50 all in :D I love Axel!

There was a UK reissue of this release not so long ago, but I held off because a single Amazon review mentioned that the audio track was faulty (no sound effects or music) and I couldn't find any kind of review to confirm if this was true or not, so I held off. I'm very tempted to pick this up, Axel seem to have it listed at a reasonable price too. I've always loved the cover artwork.

bdc 11th July 2011 01:05 PM

Fun film and lots of extras on the CR,don't have the UK one. :)

nekromantik 11th July 2011 01:07 PM

Axel said there are delays in shipments from New York so they diverting. That's why I still not got insidious yet.

I will indeed go with the Code Red release, I think. I noticed there's a version double billed with a film I've been meaning to see, but never quite got around to (The Forest, 1982). But it seems for these double features they remove all the extras, and the 25th Anniversary Extras sound quite enticing. Shame The Forest seems to be OOP.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 11th July 2011 03:22 PM

You could always buy both!

bdc 11th July 2011 03:33 PM

Don't Go is also matted on the double feature, the standalone disc is open matte.
I prefer the open matte of this one.
And you're correct, the double feature looses the extras.
