Stanley (1972)

A Vietnam veteran retreats from society to live in the Florida Everglades, he becomes inseperable from Stanley, a rattlesnake he trains to kill.

Really enjoyed this film, i didn't know what to expect but it turns out an enjoyable thriller. Great location work in the Everglades and a good performance from Chris Robinson, he must really have no fear of snakes at all.

The action comes thick and fast and the snake attacks are both brutal and realistic.

Despite it's obvious flaws it is still quite effective in producing a grim and slimy atmosphere. Certainly worth a watch if you are interested in the "roughie" genre.

The Burning - While I'm by no means a slasher fanatic I do enjoy a good popcorn horror film every once in awhile; this particular one being a personal favourite of mine from the 80's slasher cycle. Would not mind a Blu of this one day.

Takashi Miike's remake of Hara-kiri Death of a samurai.

A visually stunning and savage dissection of the samurai ethic remade from an earlier film (which I hadn't seen) from the director of communist Samurai classic Samurai Rebellion (which I have seen) This looks the dogs b****ck's on Blu-ray and while incredibly down-beat and tragic it makes a good companion piece/counter point to miike's other samurai movie 13 assassin's.

(funny how miike's films that are made around the same time feature similar themes and images)

Highly reccomended and it was less than a fiver on play with free postage.

Riki-Oh; The Story of Ricky.
This is not a GOOD movie. Full of plot holes, contrivancys, and mystical mcguffins. But hell, it's so funny, crap, lovable, and down right amazing that i'm probably gonna order the US BD soon. A great film for fan's of bad movies.

I Drink Your Blood

Thanks to Bizarre_Eye for the recommendation - I really enjoyed it! Not quite as wobbly/shonky as I was expecting (in a good way), thought some of the gore was actually quite well achieved! Going to dig out the chapter on it in Thrower's Nightmare USA now. I've avoided great swathes on it in case of spoilers . . .
