The Name of the Rose

Atmospheric, immersive and darkly brilliant...one of Sean Connery's better performances. Double bill with Mark of the Devil

"The Frankenstein Experiment"

I wasn't expecting too much from this flick but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It hooks you from the beginning buy showing some of the end results. I was intrigued and, therefore, caught in the spell of this film.

"Powerful and disturbing, gory yet intelligent" claims the blurb on the back of the sleeve and it's a serious claim. There are some inventive slayings and some impressive techno-speak sequences and that takes care of the "gory yet intelligent" aspect. "Powerful," mmm, I s'pose so, as I said I was hooked from the start and I stayed through to the end. The "Disturbing" claim is, in my mind, sure as shit! I have been disturbed by the concept of re-animation of the dead since reading Stephen King's "Pet Semetary" and possibly before with "Frankenstein" and the variations on "The Monkey's Paw."

But put all thoughts of the laughable 1980s film of "Pet Semetary" this film is fairly brutal and played straight, no laughs! An impressive film that deserves a bigger audience, 9/10 and an "AWESOME" from me!

After Earth: Awful. Simply awful. But I was spliting at the side's with laughter all the way through.

Been thinking about MoS. It's not meh, the more I think about it the more I realise it's actualy utterly terrible.

Had a Jess Franco / Tinto Brass night!
Jack the Ripper (1976) Didn't hold my attention much!
Black Angel (Senso 45) Quite surprised at this and better than I thought it would be!

Man of Steel. Man of Shite more like, but then what did you expect from Zak Snyder. Trimming the last 143 minutes would help this film tremendously, its just an awful CGI mess. Watch the Christopher Reeve films to see how you don"t need extensive CGI to tell this story.

I thought Man Of Steel was wuddy brilliant!! I adore the Chrisropher Reeve movies even the much maligned fourth one but I think Man Of Steel is the first time I've really got the character. And I don't speak as a huge fan of Zach Snyder either. His Dawn of the Dead remake, 300 and Watchmen are I think suberb films.but then that Owl bollocks and Sucker Punch in particular are rubbish of the highest order.
