I'm going to attempt to complete the BFI films to see before you're 14 list and the Sight & Sound Critics' Top 250 lists over the coming years.
I know you mean about the IMDB Top 250 as you have a new release (I think The Dark Knight did this) jumps up to the no. 2 spot before dropping back down so there are often new releases which are in a really odd positions. However, a while ago I went through it and deleted the films on the list I'd seen and bought or rented those I hadn't.

Since then, I've gone through all the AFI's 100 Years… lists and watched all the films I hadn't ready seen on those.

The Dark Crystal (1982)

A couple of rejects from The Muppet Show set out on a quest to find the missing piece of the Dark Crystal whilst trying desperately to avoid capture at the hands of a bunch of half plucked turkeys.

The Dark Crystal is a fantastic looking film brilliantly brought to life by Jim Henson. However for me thats where it ends. It holds little interest for adults on a first viewing and lacks much of the wit that made the Muppets popular with all generations.

I presume it must be a childhood thing with films such as this. Coming into cinemas in 1982, it bypassed me and i was never interested in films like this. The first films i remember seeing on the big screen in the seventies were The Adventures of the Wilderness Family, Star Wars, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, The Black Hole, Clash of the Titans and Star Trek The Motion Picture. So i was never really brought up on kid friendly puppet fare, which may account for my lack of interest in it now.

Completely agree – you can't really go wrong with Disney. Also, something based on a TV show he likes such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Lilo and Stitch etc.

I agree, all films on bdc's list are pretty harmless.

My point is: I think that a two-year-old should not watch any movies / TV / ... at all. He's simply too young, and that's what everybody who knows a little bit about neurology and brain research will be able to confirm. There are already so many stimuli in the child's surrounding the child's brain has to deal with - there's no need to add more.

Do your child and yourself a favour, and wait some time, J Harker. That's, of course, not an order - it's totally up to you to decide.

It's nothing more than a well-meant advice.
