Cut And Run Nice to see the restored Anchor Bay version. Makes a lot more sense than the UK VHS of the "soft version" I used to have. Very good picture quality. A decent enough adventure thriller. Ruggero Deodato really can be a very capable film director. |

"Where's Officer Tuba?" - One of my fav Sammo Hung films. (Of which there are many.) I love the sequence when the ghost is manipulating Sammo as he fights and also the bit when Sammo goes to dinner at his new girlfriends house to meet her family. Incidentally, it's the only film where Sammo gets to go up against the legendary Hwang Jang Lee "Time Crimes" - A low budget Spanish sci-fi thriller dealing with time travel and the complications caused when you slip into your own past. Surprisingly engaging stuff. It left me with more questions than answers, but it is definitely worth checking out. 4/5

I finally got round to seeing Paranormal Activity the other day. I really enojed it. It nice to see a simple idea done really effectively. I cant say the activity in then film left me with sleep loss like a lot of people claim (mainly becuase I dont belive in any thing paranormal) but there are plenty of creepy moments and the ending is fantastic!

"silent Night, Bloody Night" was pretty pioneering (along with the awful "Drive-In Massacre") in its use of some very early examples of elements that would become the staple of many Slasher movies to come. It just pips the oft acknowledged blueprint "Black Christmas" (whose plot device of a psycho telephoning people up, was seen in "Silent Night, Bloody Night" first as well) in presenting familiar content like the psycho heavy breathing, killer POV shots and short sharp deaths. But there' s also a heavy Giallo influence as well with close-ups of the killer's gloved hands and the ever present whispering, gender ambiguous, voice. Did you spot Warhol groupie and 'Walk on the Wild Side' gal herself Candy Darling in the great flashback scene? Transexuals 'n' trash!! |

I couldn't believe it was Candy D at the party the first time I saw it. Thought I was seeing things. Sadly she died shortly afterwards. She can also be very briefly seen in Klute (one of my 70's favourites), together with Sylvester Stallone's back and Harry Reems's legs. |

Remake? Depends how it's done and who they cast. A scene for scene remake may work......... but I can't see that happening. The original works so well because the "hero" is so ordinary. If they cast an actor rather than a movie star it may work.
