My Father Die

This is a great little revenge thriller set in the rural south of America. Poetic in places and reminiscent of Daniel Woodrell's crime novels, one of which Winter's Bone, this film reminded me of in tone at times. Gary Stretch from Dead Man's Shoes brings a brooding physicality to his role as the villain of the piece that borders on the supernatural. Recommended.

Power Rangers

Took the boy MTDS to see this...very little shit blows up, instead you get about 90 minutes of sub Breakfast Club angst dumbed down for the under 10s. Once suited up, you get a rehash of the final of the first Thor film. On the plus side it hints that one character is gay and the acceptance of this, shows a character's Asperger's in a positive manner and the film starts with a cow wanking joke! Hopefully the follow-up will be non stop action like the TV show.

A cow wanking joke? That's on the plus side you say?

It Came From Outer Space (1953, Jack Arnold)
Universal's first foray into SF is a classic example of less would be more. Bradbury's original treatment bears this out. But being a very literal people, this was a pipe dream at best.

When an astronomer spies something crashing in the desert, is it the inhabitants or the locals who should be scared? Jack Arnold keeps a steady hand on the tiller even when the story falters .... imo.

A childhood favourite and this BD is quite crisp looking. And I jumped twice because of the ST .

Must pull finger out and get Them!
Every BW film I've seen yet is so far spiffing in these regards ....
