Another thread has just reminded me of Joel Schumacher's 8mm - definitely a contender for all-time turkeydom.

Your post has reminded me of the piss-awful Schuuuuumaker Batman movies. Aaaaaarrrrgghh! I was clamouring after Adam West's Batman series after watching those camp as Christmas fairy light like movies. Not Arnie's best moment either. "Friiiiiiiiize!" |

I have to admit, even as a massive Batman fan both onscreen and off, I think Schumacher gets a bit of a hard time film-wise. Consider Falling Down, 8mm, Phone Booth, hell even St Elmo's Fire, The Lost Boys and Flatliners, he's clearly a competent film-maker who works better when he's not under pressure from a film studio dying to make as much money as possible selling toys

Falling Down and Phone Booth are great. Every other Schumacher film I have seen has been awful (though 8mm is notably the worst of those, IMO, even worse then the Batman efforts). I think he deserves any hard time he gets. What is really remarkable is just how Falling Down and Phone Booth ended up so good! |
