The ending of Nosferatu is an interesting bit of role reversal, in that Lucy, in order to kill the count, must, by necessity, turn into a kind of emotional vampire herself to do so.

@Vampix: Good point. Cushing's Van Helsing certainly comes across as a worthy adversary.

That is an intersting point Robert, I think one of the strengths of Murnau's film is that it offers multiple interpretations and readings. I love the film's sense of the occult, it must have been something to see it back in the day.

Demoncrat those are great call-outs, I'd forgotten about Nadja, and that reminded me of Abel Ferrara's 1995 picture The Addiction which has become a bit of a lost film nowadays, I never see any mention of it...

Albin Grau, Nosferatu's 1922 production designer, was a member of the F.S. ( Fraternitas Saturni).

Yeah, Nosferatu was to part of a series of occult films wasn't it ? Were there any more completed ? The phrase gets kicked around too often but I think the film is genuinely otherworldly...

Well Grau, along with many other "occultists," ended up in a concentration camp.

There seems to be some confusion as to his fate though. Some say he died in there and others maintain that he escaped.

The German "occult" scene was, at that time, an incredibly vibrant one.

Grau himself was a truly gifted artist, as Nosferatu vividly demonstrated.

Finally. Even as a spoof I love it more than any Hammer flick!

I'll also mention The Hunger.
