Love Barbara Steele too so that kinda helps. Probably my favourite venereal horror film. Sexual excess and parasitic madness, some truly disturbing moments. A classic in my eyes. wish i'd got round to posting my top 100 films too, kept meaning too, it would have been a lot higher than it currently is in the cult labs 100.

I completely agree with your statements regarding Shivers, and like you it's in my top three Cronenberg films along with Videodrome and Dead Ringers. |

Those are my three favourites, although my order is the exact opposite of yours.

I limited myself to choosing just four: Videodrome, Spider, Dead Ringers and Crash – all masterpieces. That said, Dead Ringers is his best.

Here's one of my most cherished items - the Criterion LaserDisc set of Dead Ringers which Cronenberg inscribed when I met him in 1996.

Very nice, it's one of my most-wanted Criterion upgrades on Blu-ray, I hope they get the rights back.

Shivers is still a grim wee film, from the "flat" performances to the literally apocalyptic ending, much imitated but never bettered. Rabid, whilst ploughing the same furrow as the S film imo, there is still much to enjoy (the cinema sequence etc). makes a great double bill with Behind The Green Door The Brood. As paens to divorce go, this is miles above Graceland imo. Genuinely shocking in places, like all his best films, the "real world" within them is fully realised, which helps with the suspension etc..... Scanners. Whilst people can discuss the merits of Lack's performance (or lack of one...ba dum dum tish!....), this is not for me high on my list of criteria when watching this charming tale of brotherly love. There is a definite maturing here, as the set pieces are more organically part of the film.... Videodrome. Who else thinks that Woods' acting is just a teensy weensy OTT here btw? The last of the body horror films (Pt1....) is still a wild ride, as a opportunistic TV producer is presented with a poisoned chalice, which he drinks from deeply. Still contains some of the wackiest imagery seen on a cinema screen...surely this was a big influence on japanese "cyberpunk" etc??? Dead Ringers. Irons' rather mannered performance(s) put me off this at the time, but I've grown to this film. Nice to see Lack again as well cough.
