I loved her in the final couple of minutes.

I do worry that she might not be a natural in the role. She doesn't seem to be able to command a room like the other Doctor's could. I do think this is due to the writers though. She can only say what's written and act as directed. I'd have gone for Sarah Parish for the role myself.

There's a line where she gives Graham (Walsh is excellent by the way) some sunglasses and he asks where she got them? Her answer is so contrived and in no way could it be true seeing as this episode follows directly from the last.

I genuinely like all the companions. Yaz was underused a bit here but her time will come next week by the look of it.
With Moffat gone thought we might see the end of bad writing, maybe it's a curse of doctor who as even the classic has some poor writing

Chris Chibnall was i think no one's choice to take over from Moffat in a fan sense. His Who episodes weren't well thought of at all.

However he shone with Broadchurch which is very much a human show. To be honest it's showing as in this episode the whole was forgettable but some smaller character scenes stood out.

So basically a good writer but the wrong type/genre of show for them to shine. Who do you think would of been a good choice?

Perhaps yes. It's still too early and in the past i've thought second episodes to be not up to much - The Beast Below, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship as two examples.

Controversially i'd have asked Mark Gatiss to run the show. His episodes have been hit and miss but he likes Gothic horror and is happy to write for old enemies as well. His story outlines would have been given by the show runner so in a way Moffat was as much to blame for the awful Sleep No More.

It's not an easy thing to answer because i have no idea who might have wanted to do it. I guess Peter Jackson wasn't in contention.

I do agree no matter what people moan about if a character in the shows is awful its not the characters fault (the person who plays them ) they are just doing what they are told to do and that's their job , its all down to the script writers , directors , producers etc , Ive no idea who I would have liked to write the scripts etc but someone who a dedicated doctor who fan and knows the original show inside out would be a start . sam a huge Agatha Christie fan and read all her books etc so when she watches the films or TV shows based of the characters etc at times she does point out if they are nowt like the character in the books .

I'm liking Jodie on the whole, like Dem says you can only do the best with the script you are given. Tonight's was a bit shite but every season lately has it's fair amount of toss.
I also always thought Gatiss should have taken over, this is even before the Moff.
Also enjoyed the Tardis scenes, the new one kinda echoes the old , shape wise anyways.

Default The Ghost Monument.

7.1m overnight viewers.

A drop, but still very good. Even as it stands, without the full seven day figure, it's still the third most watched program of the week (Behind Strictly's two shows).

I predicted 6m overnights, so i was way out.

Sorry.
Me too. The whole thing has become a total and utter farce. Stopped really taking note of Dr Who after series 8 with Peter Capaldi, though I did watch certain episodes up to the end of Capaldi's demise. The whole Christmas special last year signified to me that Doctor Who was well and truly over. The show and the decisions of casting a female Doctor was made more by the BBC than Steven Moffat, but Moffat just pushed all of the political correctness, feminism and diversity etc.. at full tilt. I suppose when you're paid by the BBC, then you must do as your told. Stuff all those long term fans that know and sense what Doctor Who use to be like. Though the science fiction component has been somewhat devoid from the show for some considerable time.

Doctor Who is nothing more than an empty husk of a show now. I have nothing wrong with the casting of a female Doctor, but it's the way the show is now being driven that concern's me by the BBC. If I want to watch some genuine Dr Who, then it's get those DVD's out from the past.

In the end it's owned by the BBC, so they can do what they like with it.

For me it's the sad end.

RIP Doctor Who 1963-2014
