Horror of Fang Rock and Image of the Fendahl are two of my favourite stories ever.

This whole season terrified me as a child. That nasty prawn thing, Leela's steaming, the glowing skull and best of all (although not the best story by any means) the greatest cliffhanger in all of classic Doctor Who, other than part three of Caves of Androzani, in part four of Invasion of Time.

Meanwhile Underworld was chilling all through with the scary masked guys.

I know it's just an ad but that does leave it open for her to return.

Weren't Horror and Image development leftovers from the previous producers - what's referred to as the Gothic period? I agree they were standouts, but I felt this was the season the Tom Baker years started to dip in quality. Still pretty good, but not the heights of the previous two seasons.

They certainly feel like ideas from the Hinchcliffe era. I'm sure i'll find out (without the use of Google) when i watch the extras on the box set.

Yes, i agree it did begin to dip in quality somewhat. There were more average stories than what had gone before in the Baker era, although back then even the worst stories remained watchable and always had their 'moments'.
