That set was my first ever taste of The Blind Dead. :)

bdc 4th February 2013 06:54 PM

I wanted it for nostalgia reasons as well,I admit.
I also still own the old AB vhs tapes...the first time Tombs was released uncut (in Spanish) and English friendly... ;)

My first taste was on Dutch vhs though, many moons ago.

Excellent Friedkin flick, which alternates humour and excessive violence in a hugely entertaining way. I loved the fact that it had a very clear cut story, albeit with a few twists and turns.

I've still got this from a comp on here and really must make some time to see it as I've heard nothing but good things about it

trebor8273 4th February 2013 08:20 PM

Ordered them all along with the brood, shivers, swamp thing and man thing. I Really do have some awful taste in films

Um I think I'll step in and be controversial then..... I didn't like it. There I said it. It was a piss poorly acted film but by very good actors  Why they acted bad I don't know, maybe they were meant to mimic the style of the stage show or something, beats me.
After the superb Bug and all the rave reviews I was looking forward to it but it just didn't work for me. Definitely not something I'd want to own in my collection although I will watch it again at some point just incase I missed something the first time round.

No way, those films you listed all have cult status of one sort or another, if this place teaches anything it's that the wider the taste the more chance of discovering a new fave. Now where's my compilation of those Kevin Bacon 4G ads. heh heh.

I always thought the beyond terror and dead of night were the same company. Oh well.

Anyway, if you are blu ray capable, or willing to import, The Shriek Show blu ray and DVD are fantastic.

Well, PQ may dissapoint some, but for the film it's pretty good.

trebor8273 5th February 2013 09:19 AM

Just seen this thread and your right, don't even now if there even worth the £2-3 I can get them for. But sadly this seems the only way do get a lot of these films until arrow or someone do a better job

It was about a year since i saw it. I don't recall it being OTT with gore.

Its just a decent plot, as each section of the game becomes more dangerous than the last. But not games in a Saw way.

demonknight 5th February 2013 02:42 PM

Black Sunday bluray arrived this morning.

trebor8273 5th February 2013 02:47 PM

Ordered some more stuff of cex and play. I really should stop ordering stuff when I'm depressed because when I see my bank statement I feel more depressed :mmph:

I'd never heard of them until recently. Are their releases of high quality, eg, nice prints, decent extras etc?

As someone else said, their two DVD release of Santa Sangre is first rate. I would also recommend their releases of the restored Wojciech Has films The Hourglass Sanatorium and The Saragossa Manuscript, which feature stunning transfers.

much willpower shown, could have easily laid waste to a ton on Shameless bargains alone... damn having gone part-time and having no money!

There where loads at my store, while there was only one stargate left, so with any luck it might be the same at your sainburys. I thought they might of had chained but it was not on blu ray or DVD, but Flash Gordon was a steal at £5 shame it wasn't the steel book. I really should of picked paranorman up last week as it was 14.99 compared to the 17.99 I paid today, but that was another store I saw it at, so it might be different prices at different stores

re.form 5th February 2013 07:00 PM

From Zoverstocks:

TCM second sight steelbook £6 (new) (My older vanilla copy went missing after I had builders in a couple of years ago. Of all the more expensive things in the house they could have nicked, they decided just to rob that?!)
Juan of the dead £5 (new)

Popped in a charity shop and inbetween a shelf of mainstream hollywood comedy crap was the ABUK discs of Tombs of the Blind Dead and Return of the Evil Dead for £2 each. As I don't own them in any form, I snapped those bad boys up.

Nostalgic 5th February 2013 08:35 PM

Since last posting I have generally been buying more than I possibly have time to watch (AGAIN!!!!!) so my "to watch" pile looks like this:

SUPERMAN BLU RAY BOX (solely for the extras, £12 from Sainsburys!)
BOURNE LEGACY
MASSIVE STACK OF ANIME FROM ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO
LISA & THE DEVIL
BLACK SUNDAY
TOTAL RECALL (new version)
LOOPER STEELBOOK
VHS
WRONG TURN 1-5 (watched 1-3, watching 4 tomorrow)

And my "to get" list is still quite extensive. Must stay away from Amazon!!! Lol!

The Twins Peaks gold box is a great release. I never saw the series when it was on TV when I was a teenager, so it has been great to find out just how fine it really is.
