I remember seeing this in the cinema and hating it, and haven't seen it since. Your review has prompted me to put it on my Lovefilm rental list for a re-evaluation.

You probably will still feel the same way Nos.

I rarely change my mind about films, but it's always worth reappraising them to see if your initial impression was the one you are going to stick with, or whether you were 'wrong' the first time.

I hold my hands up because in the past i always read way too much about films i hadn't seen and always went into them with near burned in preconceptions. Often when a film didn't turn out like i imagined it would i disliked them. Take The Fifth Element. I hated that until i gave it a second viewing as it went against all my initial thought of how it would play out.

I try and avoid reviews and even trailers so I can watch films with an open mind. When I go to the cinema, I listen to music on my phone until the film begins so, although I watch the trailers, I can't hear them! As such, I saw Under the Skin today knowing practically nothing about it apart from the star (Scarlett Johansson), director (Jonathan Glazer) and it involves an alien going around Scotland in a white van.

That's the best thing to do. I no longer read reviews or features on films i wish to see once i get the inkling i want to see them.

Oddly this only applies to new films.

I'm always keen to read what people think of old horrors or other films reviewed by people on here that i haven't seen.

I usually only read article or reviews if it's a 12A film I'm taking my eldest son to see, purely to find out if it's ok for him i.e The Dark Knight Rises

Hae-won a financial worker is becoming more and more depressed with life in the big city. On the brink of a breakdown she decides to take a holiday and return to the small island of her birth and a reunion with her childhood friend she left behind.

As soon as Hae-won steps foot on the island there is a feeling that all is not well among the very small community left living there. Bok-nam the childhood friend of Hae - won lives on the island with her daughter her husband and his brother. We soon learn that this little island is far from a happy little close knit community. Bok-nam faces constant physical and mental abuse from everyone on the island. Some scenes of abuse are very brutal and some scenes of abuse are only suggested but are equally disturbing.

A great film that really captures a feeling a dread and fills you with feelings of worry for what brutality lays ahead for Bok-nam. Very powerful and very effective peice of film making. An other fine example of Korean cinema.
