It's an odd film, so good to hear some love........

The Offering (Kelvin Tong, 2016)
Not as terrible as The Darkness, but it runs out of steam towards the end.

I watched Man from Deep River/Deep River Savages last night for the first time, a) I was pleasantly surprised at the content, I wasn't expecting it to be a romance drama and the actual promised cannibalism was one fairly short scene, but I found it to be paced well, filmed well and acted 'OK' and b) the editing out of animal cruelty was done really well (except for one bit where Bradley and Maraya are mid-shag and the edit wasn't 100% clean).

So overall it was a good buy and watch. Far better than Burial Ground was anyway

I might get around to watching more Lenzi later as I have Spasmo on my watch pile.

Yeah, go on then, you're exempt.
I went to the cinema when it was released and wasn't sure whether to watch Enchanted or Bee Movie as they started at the same time and I had the same (low) expectations for both.

Fortunately, I chose well, and absolutely loved Enchanted and have seen it several times on BD at home since then.

I dont want to say too much but if you liked Blacks other output like Last boyscout, kiss kiss bang bang, leathal weapon ect then you will likely enjoy this. Probably the most enjoyable film Russel crowe has been in for some time and Ryan Gosling proves he has some comedic skills in his role as a drunken asshole/private eye. I thouroughly enjoyed it.
I also watched this a couple of days ago and didn't realise it was a Shane Black film until the end credits rolled, so it all clicked into place way reminded me so much of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang – not that that is a bad thing. Of the two, I probably prefer The Nice Guys because of the period design, character dynamics and superb performance by the Australian actress Angourie Rice. However, I will probably need to watch them both again to definitively say which one is better or I enjoy the most.

Hero & The Terror (1988, Bill Tannen)

Lawdy!! here's the next installment of charles in charge haha....

Chuck is traumatised by his ability to shed partners like snakes shed their skin haha. That's ok as Cannon stalwart Steve James is on hand to say a few lines then get got. Not as much fun as Silent Rage, and I certainly hadn't seen such a large part for a female character in an actioner...well, unless it's a Rothrock film that is. I had to chuck-le at his "faint" ahem, and his expression at the end is priceless (freeze frame ending natch).

I'l be going on about another Chuck shortly......but it ain't Norris this time cough

JUNGLE CAPTIVE (1945)

The final film in Universal 's Paula The Ape woman series that started with Captive Wild Woman (1943).
After the events of Jungle Woman (1944), the body Paula of the ape woman is stolen from the morgue. A Biochemist attemps to revive Paula with blood from his female assistant. His experiments are enough to revert Paula back to human form (this time played by Vicky Lane) but she is just a walking shell. He needs a new brain for Paula and his pretty assistant is to be the donor but henchman Rondo Hatton is not happy about this and has other ideas.........
Often overlooked and rarely seen Universal horror that although not up to the highs of Captive Wild Woman is still very enjoyable and Paula gets some, if short action in the ape woman make up than she did in Jungle Woman.

Your basic cop buddy movie with the twist of one of them being an alien that along with thousands of his people have now been stranded on earth and have been released into society with most of them living within L.A. Nothing we haven't seen before but the alien angle and the development between the to leads rise it above the norm. 7.4/10

Forgotten how absolutely brilliant this film is, we have the Rutger Hauer as a blind Vietnam vet who's goes to rescue on old war buddy who's wife was murdered while he was visiting his home. Rutger sets out to find and rescue his friend, with said friends son in tow. Hilarity and action ensure. Of course this wouldn't be half the film it is, if not for Rutger Hauer. 9/10

Up tonight

ONCE BITTEN

An early vehicle for young Jim Carrey who is seduced by a 400 year old vampire who needs the blood of a young male virgin to keep her young. not that funny or even scary and i found the sub plot of his two friends trying to get laid more interesting. but the dance off between Carreys girlfiend and the vampire was interesting. 5.5/10

now watching Alligator (1980) which i cant remember ever seeing. it might be one of many Jaws ripoffs the followed the film, but i'm really enjoying what i've see.

Lethal Weapon 2. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are back as Riggs and Murtaugh stumble onto a South African group smuggling drugs and hiding behind a senior diplomat's political protections. But said group are making a very big mistake if they think they'll be able to hide behind the law when they start killing police officers and go after Riggs and Martaugh... because now the gloves are off, baby! This 1989 sequel is almost every bit as good as the classic 87 original, upping the comedy quotient but without sacrificing the darker, more bloodsoaked thriller aspects (which does happen a little in the subsequent sequels), especially in the absolutely brutal extended climax as Riggs and Murtaugh decide enough's enough and go on the warpath. I haven't seen this in about 14 years for some reason, and I've no idea why. Absolute classic!

Bone Tomahawk (2015)

Kurt Russell plays the sheriff of a small western town who together with three other men form a posse to go after the Indians who raided the town the previous night and kidnapped three of the townsfolk.

What follows is an often slow burning western which should appeal to lovers of the genre. It's easy to forget in this age of building throwing superheroes and Empire battling space operas how thrilling it can be watching men on horseback galloping along the plains, but this first time venture from director S. Craig Zahler (surely a name to look out for in the future) proves the classic western is still not dead. Because that's what Bone Tomahawk is, it's a classic western albeit with a twist, but at it's heart this tale of love and revenge is a lot closer to True Grit and The Searchers than it is to Django Unchained.

As the four are eventually captured by their savage foes who turn out not to be Indians but something else entirely, the film gets extremely violent and graphic. Yet for some reason it's the beautifully choreographed and languid build up, the first 90 minutes that linger in my memory. The realization that four men - Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox and Richard Jenkins - all excellent - telling camp fire tales and generally being tall in the saddle against the odds, when well scripted, is still as relevant today as it was in the fifties and the golden age of the Hollywood western.

Highly recommended, but definitely not for the squeamish.
