Summer Camp (2015)

Bat shit crazy Spanish horror that's a cross between Friday the 13th (New councilors arrive at rural summer camp to prep it for when the kids arrive) and Eli Roth's Cabin Fever (Said councilors end up infected and try to ferociously kill one another)

Although it takes a while to get going, once it does the carnage is brutal and fun, but there's a cruel twist midway through that really plays against the conventions of this type of movie and makes this an altogether more memorable proposition.

Recommended.

Mindkiller (1987, Michael Kreuger)

A nebbish tries to find love. Maybe if he didn't resemble a young Fuad Ramses ... he'd have more luck
When a foxy lady becomes a new work colleague, his chat up lines leave ... something to be desired. His solution to his woes is indeed woeful ahem.
Moral being .... never hide the real you ... and then some.

Two friends ( Warren Oats and Peter Fonda) set out on a holiday in their new RV with their wives ( Lara Parker, Loretta Swit) , one night the two men discover what they think is a orgy , but it's is in fact a group of Satanist who sacrifice a young woman. They are discovered peeping and the group enter a cat and mouse game with the Satanists , paranoia runs deep as everyone they meet could be one of the Satanists. Remember this terrifying me as a child but now it's not the least bit scary , but it is very tense and the ending dosent have the same effect as it did all those years ago. 7/10

The Amityville Horror. 1979.

A year after a family is killed in their home, George and Kathy Lutz move in with their 3 children and only stay 28 days due to being tormented by evil spirits.

I used to believe in this story but now i am skeptical about the facts over the years, if you forget about the back story this is still quite enjoyable. James Brolin's portrayal is scary as the film goes on as it's George that seemed to have more effect of the house and spirits and never want to argue with a man that's good with a axe. Margot kidder fresh from playing Lois lane stars as Kathy who thinks something is wrong with the house and her family. There isn't any suspenseful moments or scenes that make you jump but does have the general haunted house and tense scenes built up by the actors. Jay Anson's book is based on more fiction than fact and still enjoyable to read on dark stormy nights.

Amityville II: The Possession. 1982.

A family move in to a new house which turns out to be haunted and something evil possesses the oldest son Sonny.

I'm still not quite sure if this is a sequel or prequel, The Montelli's move in which is quite close to The Defeo family and the killings seem to be similar yet there are some flaws in it that make it seem it was late 70s. Burt Young and Rutanya Alda play the parents who's live seem dysfunctional yet controlled by the father and step foot in the house and it's mayhem. The first half of the film is set up decently at a good pace but seemed a bit messed up with the end but still enjoyable to watch, even James Olson makes a decent priest and tries to convince those around him something is wrong with the house.

Amityville 3: The Demon. 1983.

Journalist John Baxter believes the rumours of the house are false, he decides to buy the house on 112 Ocean Avenue and hopes to debunk the history and prove that it was all a hoax. When incidents happen John is still skeptical until something happens to his daughter, with a friend John decides something has to be done.

As with the early 80s film and part 3's 3D was the way to move forward but this really didn't help the movie at all, there was great cinematography but when the camera stays on a object too long the visual effects don't really help as they seem to adjust and loose the appearance of 3D.

This third installment is based on a work of fiction and parts of John Baxter was based on Stephen Kaplan who investigated the house and was a skeptic, Tony Roberts plays the lead and seems to adjust to the role with a serious tone who doesn't believe in ghosts or the paranormal. it does have some good effects and at times can have chilling moments with the background score.

Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes. 1989.

A Group of priests enter the Long Island house on 112 Ocean Avenue to exorcise it, a young priest sees a lamp that harbours a demonic entity. The lamp is later sold at a yard sale bound for California where a woman and her children go to live. Soon after arriving the demon manifests itself as the deceased woman's husband, the young priest travels to California to put a stop to the evil.

This installment was made for television and was decent, it may not be a haunted house film but more haunted household appliance haunting. Writer of the original film Sandor Stern returns as writer and director and was able to pull out a few good moments at the start with a collection of priests ready to do battle. The acting is good even from Patty Duke as the grandma that believes the children are up to no good, it does have some tense moments but nothing that would make you jump out of your skin, worth a watch.
