A woman recently released from a asylum is taken to a countryside manor by her husband and begins to think they are not alone.

Think this movie inspired two other movies, David Hemmings and Gayle Hunnicut play the couple who on a boating trip with their son, rather look after him they rather have a boat bunk up and as you can imagine he drowns. Wracked with guilt Hunnicut attempts suicide and several months later her dear husband takes her to a family owned manor, this part I thought may have inspired Lars Von Tier's Antichrist, hubby taking a wife away to a secluded area.

I got no idea if this was a theatrical or a T.V. movie but does have that look of being something made for a horror t.v. episode. Once inside after battling through a heavy fog, the voices begin to start. The main house does have the atmosphere and dark gothic appeal but towards the end more actors appear and then we get the big twist that feels like it was inspired a 2001 movie (sorry not going to spoil what film it is).

Hemmings and Hunnicut were married and reportedly had marital problems during the making of this which helped build up the reactions to their characters, but the pacing does go steady and slow through out the 90 minutes of this. There is no jump scares but does rely on atmosphere and is she hearing the voices, is the house haunted or the usual thing, husband driving the wife insane. I don't think I can watch this one over and over but may come back to it at some point.

I take it you have the Indicator release?

It's the best it'll ever look due to it being shot on video for all the interior work whilst the outdoor shooting which does look better was done on film.

Having said that, Doctor Who was also shot on video in the studio and looks a hell of a lot better than this does.

I streamed this online, and was able to download it, may order it when indicator decide to hurry up and send out what was ordered in their sale.

The Indicator release has a really good commentary from Barry Forshaw and Kim Newman.

The booklet also looks at it's unique production as well.

The Incredible Hulk (2008)

So far the only stand alone big screen outing for the green giant in the MCU series. The origin story of David Banner and his transformation into the Hulk which also plays as his introduction into the ranks of SHIELD. It's an enjoyable enough film but together with the film Avengers Assemble goes to show why there will probably be just the single Hulk film. Basically he's un-killable and unstoppable, so who do you get him to go up against that doesn't just play out as a rehash of this film.

The other big question regarding this film is why is it the sole outing for Edward Norton? Norton is impressive here, actually he's always quite impressive and generally lights up whatever he's in. In this film Norton's Hulk ends up fighting Tim Roth's Abomination, a similar creature to the Hulk, come the finale and it all ends up a great battle royal in the streets (As do most of these early Avengers films i've found) which together with the huge set piece on the university lawns make The Incredible Hulk a hugely enjoyable film.

Paramount wanted something to jump on the star wars bandwagon so they brought back star trek to the big screen. While star wars was a out and out space opera this is lot slower paced and serious . This is film that has growing on me over the years , used to think it was slow and boring hence why it got the nick name the slow motion picture but as I've growing older I've appreciated it more.

The 4k release is one of the most stunning I've seen and a lot of work has gone into too doing the old effects .





A faster paced film was wanted after the motion picture , which is what we get as the action starts from the opening . Kirk has too deal with a old enemy who has stolen a secret project and his out for revenge on Kirk. Most famous for the death of Spock that still brings a lump to my thorat . The last act of the movie plays out like a WW2 submarine movie.



Paul Newman is sentenced too a chain gang after brutally beheading a number of parking meters.

Luke butts head with the prisoners and guards but soon wins his fallow inmates over as the film goes on and he won't conform to the prison rules and let them break him he becomes some what a of a hero to the other prisoners . The film is ripe with relegous symbolism with Luke betrayed as Christ like figure at times . Excellent well acted and directed , Newman is joined by the likes of Dennis hopper , Wayne Rogers , harry dean stanton and big George Kennedy.




Amazing why has it taking me so long to watch this, if thier is a perfect film , then this is it. Everything thing from acting to directing and everything in-between is just amazing and Bogie another amazing performance as cynical Rick who deep down has a heart of gold. Just like in the film , I think this is the begining of a beautiful friendship between me and this movie. This could well be my favourite movie of all time now.

After watching cool hand Luke and Casablanca I've come to the conclusion we don't have any modern actors today of the same calibre of these two icons

Citizen X. A serial killer preying on young people terrorises 80s Russia, pursued by a dogged detective hampered by his superiors, at least some of whom even refuse to admit Russia could even produce such a monster. Stephen Rea and Donald Sutherland star in this mid 90s thriller based on a true story that was a thoroughly engrossing watch.

The Deadly Camp (1999, Bowie Lau)

Asian caper.
Going to a deserted island over the weekend will work out surely?
A group of friends set sail to shores distant .... are they alone though?
Anthony Wong pops up but doesn't hang about.
As well worn as this premise is, I still found something to enjoy with this one. 95 min and all.
