I know the head of CBS said all their new shows would be back, but Supergirl is the only one that still hasn't been officially announced. Even the showrunner hasn't been told (unless I've missed the news these last couple of days). Apparently we should know for sure around the middle of May. I really hope it does return though.

She does play her adopted mother and dean Cain plays her earth father

I wouldn't agree with that, I think it's one of the better SK adaptations, plus (much like the book) it got me reading up on all the conspiracy theories regarding JFK's assassination by his own government....

I'm going finish the season before I make up my mind but if the rest is anything like the first episode it's as you say one of the better King adaptations
