Now i can add Kill Zombie! to that list.
What about An American Werewolf in London? Arguably the greatest blend of laughs and scares ever put together in a film.

Anyway, that's another for my Lovefilm rental list!

Juan of the Dead. (2011)

Along come two great comedy horrors at the same time.

For Juan of the Dead see my review above for Kill Zombie!. Relocate the action to lovely sunny Cuba, add some Castro jokes, masturbation, and some general perviness, give the lead a heroic, genuinely emotional final scene, perhaps add even more zombies and you have Juan of the Dead.

Probably dafter than Kill Zombie!, Juan of the Dead still comes highly recommended.

Are you serious?

AAWIL shit me up no end for years. It's still damn creepy and outright disturbing in places. Landis may call it a comedy but i certainly don't.

I should perhaps have said horror comedies from this century, as films such as Theatre of Blood, the two Warhol horrors etc, etc.

I've made a slight alteration to my Kill Zombie! review to stop the discussion in its tracks.

An American Werewolf in London is scary, creepy and yes, in the case of the werewolf transformation scene, really disturbing. It's also pretty funny!

Not when you're ten, seeing it for the first time it isn't.

That's undoubtedly very true – I saw it for the first time when I was 15 and didn't see the humour in it that I do now.

Since it was the festive season once again, my Christmas dvd's/BD's were taken off the shelf (or in the case of 2 of them, bought just so I coupd watch them again). Gave a spin to 2 of my favourite versions of A Christmas Carol - the 1999 tv movie starring Patrick Stewart, and the classic Scrooged, with Bill Murray. And of course, no Christmas would be complete without a visit with the Grizwold's in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Arguably favourite Vacation movie (well, tied with the 1st maybe!). And last, but by no means least, a film that has become my favourite Christmas movie after seeing it for the 1st time last year, and like the other films mentioned here, I'll watch every year from now on, Bob Clark's A Christmas Story. One of the most perfect films I've ever seen in my life. There's not many films I can say I've watched with a smile on my face all the way through before, but once you've watched the film for a second time, and knowing the scenes, it's hard not to smile. It's no wonder it's now considered a classic. If you've never seen it, check it out next year. YULE LOVE IT!

Two films today which I have not seen before

Cat o'nine tales
Heard a lot of negativity about this film, but really enjoyed this early giallo with some great characters and great acting from the two main leads, especially Karl Malden who gives a very believable performance as a blindman, unlike a lot of movies. 8/10

Night of the devils

Very atmospheric and gripping gothic horror, based on the wurdulak legend, which was also used in one of the segments of black sabbath. Some good gore effects and a chilling film with a tragic twist ending. Picture quality is good but did seem a slight problem at times with sound. Definitely one that will be getting more viewings and one I recommend people giving a go. 9.5/10
