Default Showdown, Maniac Cop & Money Monster

Showdown

Karate Kid meets Never Back Down where Billy Blanks is a former cop who resigns after he accidentally kills the brother of Patrick Kilpatrick, Blanks is then the janitor of a high school where the new kid is being bullied by the champion of an illegal fighting ring (Run by Kilpatrick) just for talking to his girlfriend played by Christine Taylor (Ben Stiller's ex) this film doesn't
re-invent the wheel from the bullying storyline, the evil Martial Arts teacher, Blank's teaching being similar to The Karate Kid (There's even a joke about it) and the big confrontation at the end however this film is a lot of fun, if you are into a fight films, check it out. It's one of my favorites.

Maniac Cop

A Cop is seen murdering innocent people and frames Bruce Campbell for the crime so it's up to a police detective and Campbell's Girlfriend to prove his innocence. Decent film in the 80's however whilst it's still ok, there are better films out there. Also I didn't like it when they made the kill indestructible (As in taking several close range gunshots and not having much effect)

Money Monster

George Clooney is a TV Financial Expert who is taken hostage on air by Jack O'Connell who lost money on stock shares due to a glitch and he wants answers to why that happened. Julia Roberts plays the producer of the show. This is a very entertaining movie which moves along at a fast pace (The movie was around 95 minutes long, I honestly thought it was longer)

Porno (2019, Keola Racela)

Ach, it promised so much as well ....
A group of cinema ushers unwittingly unleash a demon when their "after hours" club is interrupted by an unwelcome guest. Starts well, but doesn't really go anywhere that you haven't seen before ahem.
At least you can forgive their rather silly reactions as they all seem to be Xtians
Some decent imagery. But ....
Great poster though.

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST (2004)

Mel Gibson's movie of the last hours of Jesus from the betrayal to the crucifixion.
Brutal and powerful.

Suspiria (2018)

Second watch for this movie & I still don't like it. Really slow, too political & the dancing as a metaphore for witchcraft is tedious.

I know this has had some good reviews but I can't stand it. Way too long & definately NOT a horror movie.

Maniac Cop 2. 1990.

New York is in the grip of killings and new police commissioner believes that Matt Cordell is officially dead while a detective is on the case believes otherwise.

This was a decent sequel, the film starts off as a recap at what happens from the previous film, Robert Z'Dar returns as the cop with vengence on his mind, Bruce Campbell stars (In a minor role) and Robert Davi as the hard nose detective. The plot may be a bit daft with the teaming of Matt with a criminal but William Lustig and Larry Cohen somehow managed to make it entertaining, even Michael Lerner as the new commissioner, worth a watch.

Candyman : Farewell To The Flesh

Candyman returns after the daughter of one of The Candyman's victims summons him while trying to prove he is not real to her art students. This time based in New Orleans with Mardi Gras as the backdrop the home of the Candyman myth is explained in a bit more detail and goes back to the exact place the brutal slaying took place.

Im such a big fan of Candyman but i avoided this follow up for years and i gotta say i was surprised at how enjoyable it actually was. It was great to go a little more in depth of the origins of The Candyman but it just couldn't pull off the creepy vibe of the first film. The blood and gore is well done apart from the final scene which just looked like typical 90s CGI trash really it was a bit of a let down after everything looking so good before hand. That aside the only downside was the radio host talking over alot of the film i just found him really annoying.

Farewell To The Flesh has the same senario as the first film a woman summons Candyman he latches on to her starts murdering everyone she loves and everyone thinks she is crazy but its still entertaining and there is enough going on to make it feel somewhat different.

Overall entertaining interesting and a hell of a lot better than i had given it credit for before i watched it. I really need to learn to be more open minded but i probably won't learn a bloody thing

7/10

Default The Funhouse (1981)

The Funhouse.
Blimey I've watched this now more time's than Tobe Hooper's masterpiece TCM,which I didn't think would be possible. Perhaps it's because The Funhouse is more like your traditional popcorn horror, and TCM is more like squirting lemon juice in your eyes and running naked through that tunnel of razor blades in Tales from the crypt segment Blind Alleys ..Mind you underneath Funhouses slasher film posturing is that old adage the family that slays together stays together..And while the killer is no Leatherface,he does share a few obvious similarities,a big hulking deformed man,who has the brain of a child, and the sexual sophistication,of an inbred monster raised in a closed community. That said the so called normal family unit is not exactly shown in a good light either,Joey Harper likes to re-enact Psycho on his sister in the shower, the mother is an alcoholic and the father just seems weak and useless, which just leaves Amy the final girl. The cast is likeable and the setting of a Funhouse was a stroke of genius, something Rob Zombie nicked or payed homage to in House of 1000 Corpses. If you wanted to nit pick (well this is the internet) for a traveling carnival, they have an elaborate system of air conditioning and machinery backstage at the ghost train. But i find it a fun rollercoaster ride of strangeness and Americana.

The Funhouse is a film that's grown on me over the last ten years or so. I really wasn't impressed to begin with but i keep returning to it and it gets better and better.

For a film i allegedly haven't got on with i must have seen it twice the number of times i've seen The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I've definately watched TCM 1&2 more than Funhouse, however, funhouse is amazing & i love it more since Arrow put it out.

Tobe Hooper: ,Genius.
