Red Tears is something that only the Japanese can really pull off. From the over-the-top opening scene, a killer folding the corpse of his latest victim to fit into a carry-on sized piece of luggage, the film borrows elements as diverse as South Korean chick-flicks, Japanese splatter horror, Hollywood police procedurals and the hyper-realistic violence of Hong Kong action cinema and somehow manages to mix them into something that while a mess is never less than entertaining. The copy I have, imported from Austria, is advertised as “uncut” and has English friendly sub-titles (something lacking from the German blu-ray.

Fair review BE.

It came in the wake of a very influential film (Golden Harvest's Spooky Encounters) with the difference that it is a more straight (classical or old fashioned depending how you look at it) Shaw horror (the incorporated fight scenes are just an example how classic the setup is) which basically re-uses the old vengeful ghost storyline with little new added.

I found it enjoyable myself but The Fake Ghost Catchers (also Shaw) from the following year is better imho as it incorporates humor like Spooky Encounters .

I know.....hangs head in shame

I won't be contributing this month as HK films aren't something I would watch, plus I'd have no chance of getting hold of any seeing as Bruno owns them all

Which reminds me,this month we're visiting the fragrant harbour (any Hong Kong film released between 1980 and 1997) over at:
