Operation Delta Force 2: Mayday (1997, Yossi Wein) TVM sequel this time. Under Submerged might have been a better subtitle cough. More undemanding action....with an emotional core ahem. I see there are 5 of these buggers. Alien Intruder (1993, Ricardo Gale) This is more like it. A Hardy Boy gets wasted in the prologue, Billy DEE Williams, Tracy Scoggins AND Maxwell Caufield all compete to see who can make the most of very poorly written roles. The premise is literally bananas. Why nae 5 of these instead???

It is probably why my favourite of Romero's 'Dead' trilogy is probably Dawn of the Dead – the dramatic tonal shifts make it an interesting watch, even though Night of the Living Dead and Day of the Dead are arguably better made and more consistent films. 'Dawn' moments of fun which are absent from the other two, whether it is the slapstick violence or bizarre humour from the biker gang. There are bona fide masterpieces which I will watch infrequently and deeply flawed films which I will revisit time and time again because I find them more interesting. This isn't a slight against the 'superior' films, which I watch when I have the time and attention to devote to them. When I want some escapism, I don't care if the film doesn't entirely make sense or has major continuity errors – it helps me unwind and that is exactly what I want at that particular time. Going back to ZFE, how many other films include a woman scuba-diving in a G string, a zombie fighting a shark, someone killed by having her eyeball impaled on a large wooden splinter and conquistadors rising from the dead? The level of imagination to include all these elements in a 90 minute film whilst maintaining a coherent narrative makes it a special film. Although it isn't the best film Lucio Fulci ever made, it's probably the most entertaining.
