Watched Labyrinth with David Bowie other night highly enjoyed it not seem for a while , Sam went to sleep and next day she said by god you watch some shit , really .

the Two faces of Dr Jekyll.

Dr Jekyll(Paul Massie) is a dedicated chap who spends his life in his laboratory trying to make a serum that will separate the animal side of man. and is too busy to see that his foxy misses Dawn Addams is off out all the time seeing her fancy man Paul(Christopher Lee). but after taking the potion, ends up as the hedonistic Mr hyde. and buggers off to London to enjoy all the depravity such as can can dancers flashing their knickers and an exotic lady with a snake.

bit of a middle of the road effort this from director Terence Fisher. it's definately worth a watch and has nice sets but it wasen't one of my favorite Hammer films. Lead actor Paul massie was a bit dull in the role to be honest, especially as dr Jekyll were he looks a lot like Abraham lincoln.
Hammer great Chris Lee gives a good turn though as a playboy out gambling and living it up in the whore houses. and redhead Dawn Addams is quite appealing too. And look out for Oliver reed in a small cameo playing a pimp.

not bad, and will still rate it a pretty good 69 out of 100.

I watched Captain Marvel this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found the storyline really engaging, the excellent 1990's soundtrack full of inspired choices, loved the tribute to Stan Lee before the film as well as his Mallrats-related cameo, and thought it ended really well. It did feel a bit rushed at times and possibly could have done with an extra 20 minutes to help flesh out her early life and a bit more of her mental side so it isn't so much what sided in favour of how her powers develop.

It's not as good an origins film as Black Panther or Iron Man, but it's probably better than Thor and Doctor Strange. I thought it was written and directed with a good blend of dramatic tension and humour whilst fully embracing its feminist credentials, I loved the chemistry between Carol and Fury, and will hopefully return to the cinema next week to watch again.

A solid 4/5 from me.

And the look Carol gives him on the bus was great.

Do You Know This Voice? (1964)

British crime drama set in Bristol in which an Italian widow traps a child's kidnapper after unwittingly hearing their ransom demands in a street phone box.

Even at 77 minutes this felt like it dragged a bit and would have been far better suited as an hour long episode of the Edgar Wallace Mysteries or another similarly themed series.

American actor Dan Duryea brings some star quality to proceedings and is very good as the nice guy next door who happens to be a psychopath and there are several gripping sequences, one in particular involving poisoned milk at the breakfast table, and there are some nice twists, but the over riding feeling is that it could have been better with ten minutes shaved off the running time.

Network's dvd has a beautiful widescreen print if anyone's interested.

THE BEAST IN THE CELLAR (1971)

I remember the first time I watched this movie. Years ago, late one night on TV. The scene where the storm is thundering and the crooked shadow appears at the bottom of the stairs and then slowly makes it way up with those long finger nails. Bloody creepy. Still looks good now.

Julia (2014)

If Nicolas Winding Refn had made a rape / revenge film then Julia might well be that film.

Low budget but very stylish, the scenes of rape are very harrowing but the retribution less so, aside from a penis being sliced off in close up that is.

However i do think that in this case the visuals offer more than a well trodden story line, for a low budget film it's superbly shot and boasts an excellent soundtrack too. Credit too for Ashley C. Williams who gives a fine performance as the title character. Where the film differs slightly from the norm is the fact that Julia gets help in her revenge from a sinister group, in fact so sinister they may even be of Occult origin, it certainly seemed that way.

Gonna have to find a copy of this sounds really interesting and a different take of this sub genre.
