I've still got a fair bit of Hartnell to watch and I've yet to pick up the new Troughtons.

I did get the BD of the Time of the Doctor - I really wish they would release the score for that; the music playing when Matt Smith regenerates is beautiful. The story may not be so good, but I think it is a very dignified and moving regeneration - slightly more emotional than Eccleston's but less drawn out than Tennant's. And the tie drop is important.

No

Planet of Giants was originally going to be a four part story, but it was then truncated into a three part one, with the last two episodes being re-edited into one episode

The DVD contains the transmitted three episode story

One of the extra features on the DVD is a reconstruction of how the final two episode would have appeared

One thing I don't like in Nu-Who is the fact the Doctor keeps getting namechecks in the story titles now:

The Doctor Dances
The Doctor's Daughter
The Next Doctor
Vincent And The Doctor
The Doctor's Wife
The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe
The Name Of The Doctor
The Day Of The Doctor
The Time Of The Doctor

I appreciate where you're coming from but you can only have so many Planet of's, Attack of's etc.

It must be hard to come up with a suitably interesting title without giving away the monster's name each week.

As for the last three stories. Well, being linked and about the Doctor i quite like it. I couldn't however tell you which story was which if they were listed out of transmission order. Throw in Night of the Doctor and my brain would explode.

They need to do Dawn of the Doctor next for Capaldi, set in a shopping mall.

Since we're looking at Capaldi variations:

The Doctor in the thick of it (set in Parliament)
The Doctor prefers soft top, hard shoulder
The Doctor vs the Devil's Whore
The Doctor taking the Crow Road
The End of World War Z (no Doctor in the title, but I hope you get it)
The Field of Blood (really does not need any Doctor in the title)

That would have been a great alternative 50th anniversary episode. David Camoron and his bitch Nick Clegg invent time travel and bring back Margaret Thatcher and Mary Whitehouse to the present. Mary wants revenge on the Doctor for "corrupting the children" during the Hinchcliffe era and Thatcher organises Westminster into a battle station. All the Doctors show up (even the incarnations after Capaldi) and decide on a plan of action: Erect a force field around Westminster after luring them into space (its a battle station) and transport an army of Daleks from the Time War into its proximity. The Doctors simply stand back and let evil fight evil and eventually both sides destroy each other. Mary, Margaret and David try to escape but the Doctors surround them with their tardises and drop them off in the Phantom Zone, thus creating nation wide cheers from the world and making it a better place to live in.

(Please Moffat... For the 60th if you please Though I would be shocked if those fiends survived the elections to still in power by that point)
