Well worth picking up this release. The Curse Of The Fly looks especially nice.I actually wish sometimes the original had been made in Black & White.

We Need To Talk About Kevin.
saw this at the Curzon in Wimbledon.
nice enough place.
the film itself, hmmmm. glad i never saw the trailer.
is it meant to be a comedy??
aaanyway, i laughed.

came back and saw a bit of NW Refhn's Bronson on film4.
after id sworn of "films glorifying violent bastards", i may give this a go after all, looked more like Silent Scream (the Iain Glenn one) than SCUM (not that i hate clark's masterpiece....)

Bronson's a great film, it's definitely no "prison biopic". It has some real artistic scenes too, if that makes any sense. You'll have to watch it all to get what I mean.

Watched a couple of films today, first up Wizard of Gore, yet another crappy H.G Lewis flick, absolutely loved it, it was the Odeon R2 DVD which I got for £2 on eBay new. Second up was Shameless's DVD of Torso, gonna have to watch this again as I was busy doing college work and missed most of it, enjoyed what I saw but I never found out who the killer was so I'll give it another spin sometime

i got mine in the play.com christmas sale a few years back, it's a stunning set. Cronenberg's version is, Like Nos said, far superior, but you just gotta love Vincent Price in that film.

Bronson is a bit like if Ken Russell was asked to do Scum, which is right up my street.
Hardy's performance is spectacular and it went some way to endear him to my heart as an actor willing to put his neck on the line.

Refn is 'up there' for me as one of the most interesting directors working today and the fact that he finished shooting Bronson and immediately started filming Valhalla Rising (my fave of his films) is a testament to his creative urge and vision.

Farewell

Saw this in three instalments over three sleepy evenings, so probably need to watch it again! But anyhow, I found it a good, solid, Cold War thriller. Biggest surprise for me was the central performance from director Emir Kusturica. I was previously unaware of his acting chops, and he does a really good job here as the tragic Soviet spy. Maybe a disappointment for Willem Dafoe fans (he gets the biggest face-space on the cover), as he features in literally two scenes. Thought the American side of the story felt a little out of step with the rest of the film, with Reagan and his advisor coming across as vaguely Lynchian comedy characters. I think I was expecting a little more from this, all perfectly watchable, well made and acted, but nothing particularly remarkable. Will definitely come back for a much-needed second viewing though.
