Tore Tanzt - wow. That was a difficult film. They forgot the English subtitles, so I probably missed some of the subtleties, but it was a grim but brilliant study of faith in the face of an all too believable evil. There are many moments when you just want to turn away. Brilliant and recommended for those with a strong stomach. I beleive it was shown ar fantastic fest under the title Nothing bad can happen. |

From 1944: Going My Way Smaltzy sugary stuff!....Actually I loved it Screwball Squirrel Nowhere near as good as Bugs, Daffy and Tom & Jerry! The Spider Woman Sherlock Holmes in another formulaic outing! The Scarlet Claw Holmes again! The Pearl of Death more from the detective Meet Me In St Louis Never seen this and was quite looking forward to it after the Holmes movies but it left me cold and somewhat uninterested! http://www.cult-labs.com/forums/memb...tml#post368800

Squirm:- The director of this movie should be made die slowly..........very slowly. It was just awful. And featuring Rick Baker effects, what effects? One actor, R.A Dow, had prosthetic effects applied to his face and that was it. Fair enough, Baker was probably not long at the whole make up game in 1976 and was probably still quite young, but I was just expecting some more gore/make up effects scenes. The few extras on the disc I did enjoy I have to say, it's just a shame about the feature itself. Looked nice on Blu though |

Anuvahood Bought the blu in a 4 for £10 and decided to watch it last night. For comedy it was ok. But the best performance was by Richie Campbell playing Tyone as a hard man but it was so over the top it was hard not to laugh. Comedy was ok but there are better films out there. Adam Deacon plays a wannabe gangster who hangs around the streets with his friends thinking they are hard too. His mother played by Linda Robson tells Adam he is a no good waster and that sets out a day of robbery, hanging around the streets and not doing anything and just talking shit. All in all it was ok but nothing special Last edited by Bringer Of Funerals; 29th September 2013 at 03:20 PM. |

So after yesterdays excitement in Hamburg its back to the rather less impressive cinema experience that is Chez SShaw. First up was The Seasoning House which I caught a couple of times on the festival circuit and which has now been released in Germany on Blu-Ray. This is an impressive debut from a director best known for his effects work and is a film that I recommend. After a bit of arsing around in the cellar, my Sunday tea time viewing is A Bridge Too Far which portrays the batlle for Arnhem bridge (the events of which occurred almost 70 years ago last week. This is a film that I love for its portrayal of both the insanity of war and also the heroism of those involved. Perhaps Dickies best work with a superb all-star cast. The kind of film that is unlikely to be made ever again. and then finally a very different kind of war film Frankensteins Army here on German blu-ray. I saw this at Imagine complete with director and SFX guy Q&A and with a couple of the monster costumes in attendance. I didn't like it. Perhaps my expectations were too high after the Worst Case Scenario promo/trailer that did the rounds a few years ago. On second viewing my impressions are a little bit better. Perhaps it is a film better suited to a beery night in? Last edited by SShaw; 29th September 2013 at 08:31 PM. |
