Can't recommend this one highly enough for those who have kids, or not for that matter but just make sure your little ones aren't overly sensitive as the film really packs an emotional punch. Excellent stuff.
Like you and everyone else, I think it's a terrific little film with great performances by the children.

Same here mate, same here. The front cover of the DVD/Blu makes you think it's this childish fantasy but it's more than that and really packs an emotional wallop

No, but I had a lump in my throat – I don't cry easily!

It's not quite as emotional as the end of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas though – that really is a heartbreaker.

Hear hear!

Just watching Lake Placid on E4HD, never seen it before and I have to say, the PQ looks stunning.

Odd film that one. Don't remember being that impressed with it on the whole but was sobbing my (going through issues at the time) bollocks off at the end.

Since my last update I watched the following films:

When the Lights Went Out British haunted house story, apparently based on true events, that failed to capture my attention on this occasion. But it piqued my interest enough that I will give it a second chance.

Ghostbusters Do I need to comment on this comedy genius?

Submarine I had been listening to the soundtrack album a great sea in recent weeks so decided to watch the blu-ray. l love this film, I really appreciate the slow melancholic way the narrative unwinds and it puts me in mind of my own school days.

Grabbers Great fun film.

Planet of the Apes, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, Battle for the Planet of the Apes. The trailer for the upcoming sequel in the rebooted franchise inspired me to take down my planet of the apes box set from its dusty shelf. The original film remains simply fantastic, while the sequels can't live with the original they do (at least up until conquest) deliver more than average.

Finally Cheap Thrills which I finally managed to see at Fantasy Film Fest last August after missing it at almost every other festival I attended. I really like this dark film which provides an interesting critique of the shallow, money driven society we currently inhabit.

Watched 2 films today:

TORSO / VIOLENZA CARNALE ('73) - Masterful giallo from Martino starring British giallo-queen Suzy Kendall. If the setting of Perugia isn't gorgeous enough, Martino fills the screen with mostly naked women, most of the time! The story is solid too and the direction really inventive. I especially liked the bit where the killer chucked a body down a well with the camera pointing up from way down at the bottom of the well. As with most gialli, the soundtrack is a key part of the film too. Blue Underground's blu is fantastic, stunning PQ and the audio does the job nicely.

ANGEL HEART ('87) - A stunning mix of (neo-)noir and horror; my 2 favourite genres! De Niro plays the devil, Mickey Rourke the gumshoe. Incredible New York and depression-era Deep South settings. Gory, intense, atmospheric, surreal. Classic film I never get bored of watching. Bizarrely, chickens and fans are running themes throughout! The UK Optimum/StudioCanal blu came out many years ago now but its an impressive one and does the film justice.

Escape plan

Fantastic so glad i listened to people on here. The chemistry between Sly and Arnie is a real highlight and there scenes together are a joy to watch. Not going to spoil the story for those who haven't seen it. Just go out and get it, even after all these years there are still the best at what they do no one else comes close t these two legends. 8.5/10

Now watching day of the beast (El dia la besta) which is my first time seeing this film but enjoying it immensely.
