Watched Wendigo recently. Larry Fessenden's film is an excellent mixture of harsh reality and American legend. The film is alive with strong sounds and images of dread as the spirit of the Wendigo comes alive. The films cast give excellent performances throughout, in particular Erik Per Sullivan as the child who is given the effigy of the Wendigo. His performance is subtle and realistic rather than the over the top dross most child actors deliver in lower budget films. Fessenden directs the film at a languid pace allowing the strong atmosphere to take a hold over the viewer. Due to this i would not suggest this film to anyone whose idea of horror extends no further than Saw and Zombieland. |

Caught up with last year's Outcast and thought it had promise. It's worth seeing as a curio if nothing else. It's well shot, well acted, but the story falls to bits at the end. But worth it, I think. AND James Nesbitt is NOT annoying in it! He's actually really good! Also finally saw Black Swan, which I reviewed in my blog (link below). |

What films have you seen recently?
The original ISOYG is very good and typical of rape and revenge films of the era I saw the remake a while ago and its one of the few remakes I like |

Just seen a indie drama called dessert son its about this lad and his step dad leaves him in a desert and drives off, he then meets a gal and another guy. its a pretty good indie offering, it had good festival vibe and the acting by John Bain who plays the lad that got left. It is quite slow and nothing really happens till the last 30 mins but its a good movie if your into this sort of movie. Well done to the directors (one of them is a first time director). |

I watched Monsters last night. Really enjoyed it (although I can see why some people don't like it). Superb acting by the two leads, great atmosphere and stunning scenery. Watched Hush tonight. Again, excellent acting and some really tense scenes. The main bad guy never spoke and reminded me of Michael Myers or Jason near the end. Well worth checking out. |
