"Here's a Health to the Barley Mow". As mentioned before this is a 2 disc set of rural dances, children's games and odd customs. My joint favourite release this year along with "The Life and Death of a Porno Gang". Stand out films of the set are the early silent shorts of morris dancers, with costumes so bizarre you'd believe they came from some lost tribe only recently discovered In New Guinea, "Oss Oss Wee Oss" which all fans of "The Wicker Man" should see for it's sheer pagan like weirdness in the modern world and the totally crazy "The Burry Man of South Queensferry" which is a bloke covered head to toe in burrs from thistles being led around the street for 7 hours without speaking, weeing or sitting down as people give him drinks of whiskey. There is something so alien about him, he's hard to comprehend with the rational mind. The film from which this set takes it's title is also pretty special as it shows the end of a culture whereby customers in a Norfolk pub sing and dance traditional folk songs and step dances in the early 50s. Get your clogs on, get to the shops and buy it.

The Jazz Singer(1927).The first talkie,it's really captivating to watch the transformation from silent to sound. Some find it sad because an art is dying ,some find it extraordinary because something new is ready to be explored or exploit. Not a masterpiece but very good

Yesterday afternoon/evening I had a Blu-ray triple bill of: Dead & Buried which has a great premise and some great death scenes. It isn't the most accomplished or scary horror film I've ever seen, but it's certainly one I'll revisit and then go through the three commentaries. The Human Centipede (First Sequence) which manages to be as intense, gory and funny as the first time I saw it, if not more so. I really don't know why the BBFC thought the premise for this one was okay but the sequel wasn't as they're both pretty outrageous. Se7en, which I first saw when it was released on video and have bought on every format since. This Canadian mediabook doesn't have any literature, but the DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track is outstanding and the HD picture, taken from the digital negative, is outstanding. I don't know why it's not generally recognised as a horror film given the content and some of the more graphic scenes. I also watched Intruder on DVD, a film I hadn't previously heard of until it was mentioned on one of the artwork threads. It has an unusual blend of suspense, gore and some odd humour (including a reference to The Three Stooges) but, all in all, works very well and a re-release with an improved picture and more extra features would be most welcome.
