Blood Stalkers (1978)

Blood Stalkers is a backwoods horror about two couples who drive out to a hunting lodge and find the local hillbillies less than hospitable.

Aside from the last 15 minutes or so, the film is a lacklustre, bloodless affair of tedium and drudgery.

The backwoods 'hicks' are portrayed as cartoonish caricatures, who also don monkey suits in order to (poorly) imitate Sasquatches and frighten the couples. In addition to the inclusion of hillbillies playing dress-up, the director seems to go out of his way to stamp his mark on the film in other ways, also splicing in very long cutaway scenes of a church choir within the final act amongst the killings, which whilst seemingly aiming for a creative statement of contrasting the slaughter with that of joyous religious praise, instead comes across as random and sloppy filler.

The score is also very odd and at times overly distracting, almost seeming to have been lifted from a cheesy '70s police show, and therefore not fitting the tone of the film at all.

Despite the finale being fairly rewarding in the slaughter-stakes, it doesn't make up for the prior 75 minutes of yawn-inducing boredom.

Ron would love it.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014) - 4/5

The critics are talking out of their uptight, pretentious arses. This is such a great time, with even more impressive visuals than the original and is like the most film noir film in existence. You must go and see it in 3D, it works so well with the style of the film. My only complaint is it should have had an epilogue like the first film, as when the credits appear it doesn't feel like the ending was quite substantial enough.

Tonight's film was Frequencies, which I originally saw at Fantasia 2013 under the title OXV: The Manual. Since then it had its U.K. premiere at the London Science Fiction Festival earlier this year.

I really liked this film first time round, including it in my top 10 films from last year, and see no reason to change my opinion after watching the blu-ray (limited release direct from the filmmakers, its an Australian release but is not region coded). It takes some very simple ideas and uses them to explore the themes of a predestined life vs. free will and also manages to cram in some thoughts on the relationship between science and the arts. Recommended.

Wrestlemaniac.

Pretty much as advertised. A Sleazy bunch of ametuer porno movie makers decide to ignore local warnings and stop off at the local ghost town. Before anyone can say 'zoinks' the group are being killed off one by one by a crazed luchador. Fairly cheezy and occasionally bloody its still idiotic in a fun kind of way and there are plenty of worse ways to spend 90 minutes than watching Ray mysterio snr pull peoples faces off.

Joyride 3: Roadkill.

In america the first film was called joyride, over here it was Roadkill (starring steve zahn and Paul walker) the sequel was Joyride 2 in america, roadkill 2 here. Tentatively then this one appears to be getting released as Joyride 3 as that makes total f*****g sense.

Ah well, its basically devolved the whole franchise into torture porn at this point anyway. Not to the travesty level abomination that is the recent wrong turn films but it's not going to set the world of horror cinema alight either. Trite, predictable, trashy fun.

Expendables 3.

Overcrowded and horribly edited. Entertaining to watch but I seem to have forgotton large portions of the film already. Hopefully the failiure will allow those involved to make the next one a more focused and bloody affair.

Good to see Wesley Snipes back on top form and Antonio Banderas really scene steals but the real plaudits deservedly go to Mel 'third Reich' Gibson who in spite of being a total bastard still has some acting mojo and really nails his scenes, the high point being the scene in the plane where he totally owns it.

Hopefully he'll sort things out and make amends as I dont think cinema is finished with thuis guy just yet.

Like others I enjoyed the lords of salem
Quite a fan of Ulli Lommel's Boogeyman but the sequel is one of the worst movies i have ever seen and i am not alone in my opinion as it has an IMDB rating of 1.9.

I only went to watch Wrong Turn 6 as it was up against a movie called Shockwave Darkside 3D which was from the makers of The Banshee Chapter which i hated and luckily i avoided the worst film of the festival.
I had no expectations from Wrong Turn 6 and have actually sat through all the sequels and although it was not a great movie it was watchable with a couple of good death scenes and plenty of gratuitous sex scenes.
In my opinion it was better than the fifth installment but that is not hard. It is due out on dvd in the UK on the 20th October just in time for Halloween.

VHS Viral was the world premiere and was a late addition to the line up. I am not a fan of the first VHS but really liked VHS 2 and this installment is a mixed bag and the best segments were 'Dante the Great' and 'Bonestorm'.

I am a big fan of Eli Roth and Italian Cannibal movies and was really looking forward to the Green Inferno. The characters were really unlikeable so you did not care if they got eaten by the cannibals and the acting was on par with a soap opera.
There were some good scenes within the movie including some great gore but contained too much juvenile humor that they should have called the movie 'Carry On Cannibal'.
I am quite fond of The Green Inferno on a bad movie level and will be definitely be watching it again as soon as it gets a release but this time with a few beers.

Seen few films recently, But latest 2 are

Inbetweeners 2 few of us watched this and can honestly say its better than first one.
The waterslide scene its gross out but funny.
But main reason why find Jay funny is we have a friend who is exactly like him .
Making up tales a world of her own exaggerating lying etc .exactly the same as Jay and even when she caught out still lies but digs herself a deeper hole.
We all know she does it and from time to time annoys us because we cant understand why she does it but we just leave her to it because she not actually botthering us or causing any trouble. Worse thing is she isn't even a good liar. Eg she once said she never been abroad then much later she harp on about the time 20 of them went abroad and got drunk started arguing ended up trashing the hotel and got arrested for rest of holiday.she really does have compulsive lying on a high level.

Purge Anarchy again really enjoyed this better then the first one.
Exactly my type of film if u want action/violence and a change from a horror.
I liked first one whole idea and concept of the film was original and new.
Where you could legally purge yourself for one night a year.what let it down was it went down the route of you seen it all before. I have thought the second film would have been better as the first.

How many of them do you actually remember, tho, and how many have 'merged' or been instantly forgotten?
