I wasn't doing the politics angle honest, i'm oblivious to much of the American nuances either way, just an observational comment.

Housebound. Bolshy sourpuss gets put under house-arrest in her mother's house for 8 months for burglary and discovers that the house has an unsavoury history that never really went away. The lead character is pretty unsympathetic to be honest, although she gradually thaws throughout the film. I really enjoyed this film, it has a bit of The People Under the Stairs about it, but without the social commentary, and from a NZ standpoint. Some really tense moments and some quite funny ones too. I'd certainly recommend it if you like a bit of comedy in your horror. A keeper. |

Get mean A random purchase as its a blue underground release, it made its way to the top of the pile with the boast on the sleeve that our cowboy hero gets caught "in an epic battle involving vikings, the moors, brutal barbarians, a raging bull and a diabolical shakespeare-quoting hunchback". The experience of actually watching the film is as unusual as the film itself. It opens with our hero being dragged through a barren wilderness behind his horse. His horse drags him into a ghost town where some gypsy psychic tells him he was expected. He ends up escorting a princess to spain to claim back her lands. There things get really strange when moors, barbarians and medieval warfare ravage the land. Our protagonist must 'get mean' if hes going to survive. If you get the chance give this one a try. I thought I'd seen the outer limits of weirdness with Django Kill but Get mean is on another level. Its Beautifully shot and scored film that appears to have had some actual money thrown at in in spite of it being the sort of screenplay that would demand piss tests from the writers. Its also highly enjoyable as well and well paced at a lean 90 minutes. |
